INTRODUCTION

Salvation settles our destination, but sanctification is the daily battle of the mind. In the Dispensation of Grace, believers are no longer in Adam but in Christ—yet the old man still seeks control through thoughts, habits, and desires.

Victory is not gained by emotions or experiences, but by the renewing of the mind through the Word of God. This message reveals the biblical conflict between the OLD MAN and the NEW MAN, and how grace equips us to walk in victory.

 

The POSITION Changed

Romans 6:6

A. Old Man Crucified – Our old identity was nailed to the cross (Rom. 6:6).

B. New Man Created – A new creature in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17).

C. Standing Settled – We are complete in Him (Col. 2:10).

Positionally dead to sin, alive unto God.

 

The PROBLEM Continues

Romans 7:18

A. Flesh Still Present – Sin dwells in the flesh (Rom. 7:18).

B. Thoughts Still Pressured – Carnal thinking resists truth (Rom. 8:7).

C. Will Still Tested – Daily choice between flesh and Spirit (Gal. 5:17).

The battle is not for salvation, but for control.

 

The POWER of the Word

Hebrews 4:12

A. Word Is Living – Active and alive (Heb. 4:12).

B. Word Is Piercing – Divides soul and spirit (Heb. 4:12).

C. Word Is Discern­ing – Judges thoughts and intents (Heb. 4:12).

Change begins when truth confronts lies.

 

The PROCESS of Renewal

Romans 12:2

A. Refusal to Conform – Reject worldly patterns (Rom. 12:2).

B. Renewal of Thinking – Mind reprogrammed by Scripture (Eph. 4:23).

C. Resulting Transformation – Life follows renewed thinking (Prov. 23:7).

A renewed mind produces a transformed life.

 

The PRINCIPLES Replaced

Ephesians 4:22–24

A. Lies Replaced by Truth – Speak truth (Eph. 4:25).

B. Anger Replaced by Grace – Controlled, not carnal (Eph. 4:26).

C. Lust Replaced by Holiness – Put on the new man (Eph. 4:24).

You must put off before you put on.

 

The PERSON of the Spirit

Galatians 5:16

A. Spirit Indwells – God lives within the believer (Rom. 8:9).

B. Spirit Illuminates – Teaches truth (1 Cor. 2:12–13).

C. Spirit Empowers – Victory over flesh (Gal. 5:16).

Victory is not self-effort, but Spirit-led.

 

The PRACTICE of Warfare

2 Corinthians 10:4–5

A. Thoughts Captured – Bring every thought to Christ (2 Cor. 10:5).

B. Strongholds Cast Down – Lies demolished by truth (2 Cor. 10:4).

C. Mind Guarded – Peace replaces anxiety (Phil. 4:7).

The battlefield is the mind.

 

The PROOF of the New Man

Galatians 2:20

A. Christ-Lived Life – “Christ liveth in me” (Gal. 2:20).

B. Grace-Motivated Walk – Not law-driven (Rom. 6:14).

C. Faith-Directed Living – Trust in God’s Word (2 Cor. 5:7).

New life manifests new desires.

 

The PEACE Assured

Philippians 4:7

A. Peace from God – Not from circumstances (Phil. 4:7).

B. Protection of Mind – Hearts and minds kept (Phil. 4:7).

C. Power through Christ – Sustained by Him (Phil. 4:13).

A renewed mind enjoys guarded peace.

 

CONCLUSION

The Christian life is not about reforming the old man, but reckoning him dead and living in the new man. Victory is possible—not by emotions, rituals, or discipline alone—but by daily renewing the mind with the Word of God under grace.
