The doctrine of purgatory is one of the most deceptive teachings ever conceived by man — a false hope wrapped in religious tradition. It teaches that souls of believers go to a temporary place of suffering after death to be "purified" before entering heaven. This teaching undermines the finished work of Christ, perverts the Gospel of grace, and places man’s works where only Christ’s blood belongs.

From a dispensational standpoint, purgatory confuses Israel’s prophetic program (involving judgment and purification) with the Body of Christ’s mystery program (involving grace and justification by faith alone).

Let us uncover why this doctrine is evil, unscriptural, and dangerous in light of the revelation given to Apostle Paul — the apostle of grace.

𝗜. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗔𝗬𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧

(Purgatory denies the completeness of Christ’s atonement)

It Corrupts the Cross – Hebrews 10:10-14

“By one offering He hath perfected forever them that are sanctified.”

The work of Christ on the cross was once for all.

Purgatory implies Christ’s death was insufficient.

This attacks the core of salvation — finished redemption.

It Contradicts the Covenant – Ephesians 1:7

“In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.”

Redemption means paid in full, not partially paid.

The New Covenant’s promise is forgiveness through blood, not fire.

To add purgatory is to add to His grace — a spiritual insult.

It Cancels the Comfort – Romans 5:1

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God.”

There’s no peace if believers fear post-death suffering.

True comfort rests on grace, not guilt.

Purgatory robs believers of assurance.

𝗜𝗜. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗢𝗙 𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗠

(Purgatory’s roots are not Biblical but Babylonian)

It Originated in Idolatry – Ezekiel 8:13-14

“Women weeping for Tammuz…”

Ancient pagans believed in purification fires.

Rome baptized these pagan ideas into Christianity.

Satan’s goal: to replace revelation with superstition.

It Operates in Ignorance – 1 Thessalonians 4:13

“I would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep.”

Believers need not fear for the dead — they’re with Christ.

Ignorance of dispensational truth leads to false traditions.

Paul revealed a heavenly destiny, not an earthly purgatory.

It Offers a False Intercession – 1 Timothy 2:5

“There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

No priest or prayer can change the dead’s condition.

Only Christ mediates between God and man.

Purgatory replaces Christ’s priesthood with man’s.

𝗜𝗜𝗜. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗘𝗡𝗧

(Scripture knows only Heaven or Hell — not an in-between)

It Distorts Divine Justice – Luke 16:22-26

“Between us and you there is a great gulf fixed.”

The rich man and Lazarus story proves no transition between realms.

No bridge from torment to comfort.

God’s justice is final, not flexible.

It Disregards the Dispensation – 2 Corinthians 5:8

“Absent from the body, present with the Lord.”

The Body of Christ’s members go instantly to glory.

No waiting room, no cleansing fire.

The mystery program excludes purgatory completely.

It Denies the Destination – Philippians 1:23

“Having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better.”

Paul’s confidence was immediate presence with Christ.

Purgatory nullifies that blessed hope.

It blurs the believer’s heavenly calling.

𝗜𝗩. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗙𝗜𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗗

(Purgatory is used for manipulation and money)

It’s a System of Sale – Acts 8:20

“Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.”

Indulgences and masses for the dead enrich false religion.

Grace cannot be bought or sold.

Money becomes the modern “fire extinguisher.”

It’s a Scheme of Slavery – Galatians 5:1

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free.”

It keeps people under fear and bondage.

Rome controls through guilt and payment.

True believers are liberated, not enslaved.

It’s a Substitute for Salvation – Titus 3:5

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us.”

Works, rituals, and offerings cannot purify sin.

Salvation is by mercy, not money.

Purgatory sells what Christ already secured.

𝗩. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗘𝗗

(Believers are already purified through Christ)

We Are Cleansed by His Blood – 1 John 1:7

“The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.”

No fire can cleanse what blood already did.

Purgatory mocks the sufficiency of the cross.

Our cleansing is complete, continuous, and certain.

We Are Complete in His Body – Colossians 2:10

“Ye are complete in Him.”

Nothing missing, nothing pending.

Believers are perfect in position before God.

Purgatory suggests incompleteness — a lie against Christ.

We Are Confirmed by His Spirit – Ephesians 1:13-14

“Sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise.”

The Spirit’s seal means security until redemption day.

No further purification needed.

The seal cannot be broken by any so-called purgatorial fire.

𝗩𝗜. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗘

(Christ assured believers of immediate rest)

Immediate Entrance – Luke 23:43

“Today shalt thou be with Me in paradise.”

No waiting, no washing, no works.

The thief’s salvation was instant.

Christ’s word stands above man’s doctrine.

Incorruptible Inheritance – 1 Peter 1:4

“To an inheritance incorruptible, undefiled, and that fadeth not away.”

Heaven is not a goal to earn — it’s a gift to receive.

Purgatory denies the believer’s secure inheritance.

Grace guarantees glory.

Indwelling Identity – 2 Corinthians 5:17

“If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.”

The believer’s identity is righteous in Christ.

You don’t purge what God already perfected.

Our purification is positional, not progressive by fire.

𝗩𝗜𝗜. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡

(Purgatory leads souls away from truth and toward perdition)

It Misdirects the Multitude – Matthew 15:14

“If the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.”

False teachers blind people with tradition.

Souls trust religion instead of redemption.

Multitudes march toward hell, thinking they’ll reach heaven later.

It Misrepresents the Message – Galatians 1:6-9

“If any preach another gospel… let him be accursed.”

Purgatory corrupts the grace gospel.

It adds man’s effort to divine mercy.

Paul’s gospel allows no middle ground.

It Misleads the Mind – 2 Corinthians 11:3-4

“The serpent beguiled Eve… so your minds should be corrupted.”

Satan deceives through religious appearance.

Evil doctrines often look “holy” but deny the truth.

Purgatory is Satan’s lie disguised as mercy.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻

Beloved, purgatory is not a place of purification — it’s a product of perversion.
It’s not a doctrine of hope — it’s a doctrine of hellish deceit.
It denies grace, dishonors Christ, and destroys assurance.

The believer under this dispensation is complete, clean, and sealed — not waiting to be burned, but waiting to be caught up (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Reject false doctrines — stand firm in the gospel of grace.
Rest in Christ’s finished work — it’s perfect and permanent.
Reach others with truth — expose lies with Scripture rightly divided.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀

Purgatory insults the blood of Christ.
Purgatory introduces Babylonian confusion.
Purgatory instills bondage and fear.
Purgatory ignores Pauline revelation.
Purgatory interrupts the believer’s assurance.
Purgatory invents a false system of salvation.
Purgatory is indeed an evil doctrine — born in hell, not in heaven.
