WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THE TOWER OF BABEL?
(Genesis 11:1β9)
INTRODUCTION
The Tower of Babel is more than a historical eventβit is a vivid demonstration of what happens when mankind rejects Godβs revelation and establishes his own system of righteousness, unity, and religion. In Dispensational truth, Babel marks the end of the Dispensation of Human Government and reveals the root problems of man: pride, rebellion, and independence from God.
As we study Babel, we discover lessons for todayβs worldβwhere humanity still builds systems, religions, and movements without God, and where confusion reigns when the Word of God is rejected.
THE PERVERSION OF HUMAN UNITY
(Man united in rebellion)

One language, one speech, but one sinful intention.
B. United in Disobedience β Gen. 11:4
They gathered centrally when God commanded them to scatter.
C. Universal in Depravity β Rom. 3:10β12
Human unity without God always produces collective corruption.

(Man attempting self-exaltation)
A. Arrogant Aspirations β Gen. 11:4
βLet us buildβ¦ let us make us a name.β

Satan sought the same: self-elevation to heaven.
C. Abandoned Authority β Prov. 16:18
Pride brings destructionβindividually and nationally.
THE PRESUMPTION OF HUMAN RELIGION
(Man creating his own way to reach God)
A. Human Invention β Gen. 11:3
They made bricksβa manmade substitute for Godβs materials.
B. Human Interpretation β Rom. 10:3
They established their own righteousness.

Religion imitates God but originates from manβs wisdom.

(God confuses what man glorifies)
A. Confounded Speech β Gen. 11:7
The very unity they trusted became confusion.
B. Chaotic Scattering β Gen. 11:8
Their rebellion dispersed them.
C. Consequences Continued β 1 Cor. 14:33
God is not the author of confusionβman is.
THE PATTERN OF HUMAN FAILURE
(Every dispensation ends with man failing)
A. Failure Under Government β Gen. 9β11
Instead of righteous rule, man created corrupt religion.
B. Failure of Human Effort β Rom. 3:23
Manβs best efforts fall short.
C. Failure Without Revelation β Eph. 4:18
Darkened hearts produce darkened systems.
THE PROVISION OF GODβS PURPOSE
(God moves forward with His prophetic program)
A. A New Nation Chosen β Gen. 12:1β3
God calls Abraham immediately after Babel.
B. A New Covenant Promised β Gen. 15:6
Righteousness by faithβnot works.
C. A New Plan Unfolding β Rom. 4:16
God begins the prophetic program through Israel.

(Babel sets the stage for prophecy and later mystery)
A. Division of Nations β Deut. 32:8
Nations multiplyβIsrael eventually separated.
B. Development of Prophecy β Gen. 12:3
Godβs plan for the earth originates with Abraham.
C. Delay of the Mystery β Eph. 3:1β5
The Body of Christ was not revealed in Babelβs time.
THE PARALLEL TO THE PRESENT AGE
(Modern humanity mirrors Babel)
A. Global Rebellion β Ps. 2:1β3
The world unites against God again.
B. Global Religion β Rev. 17:1β5
Mystery Babylon mirrors ancient Babel.
C. Global Redemption Offered β 1 Cor. 15:1β4
The gospel of grace is Godβs answer today.
CONCLUSION
The Tower of Babel teaches that manβs unity without God produces rebellion, religion, and ruin. Every human attempt to replace God results in confusion. Yet Godβs response is always graceβmoving forward His purpose, culminating in the revelation of the Mystery to Paul and the formation of the Body of Christ.
