THE WORKS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

INTRODUCTION

In every dispensation, the Holy Spirit works — yet His methods, ministries, and manifestations differ according to God’s revealed program.

Under the Law, the Spirit came upon men temporarily.
In the kingdom program, He empowered miracles and signs.

But in the Dispensation of Grace, the Spirit performs a new and unique work in believers — indwelling, sealing, and uniting us into the Body of Christ.

Understanding the Spirit’s works is essential to avoid confusion, false doctrines, and misplaced expectations.

I. THE SPIRIT’S WORK IN REVELATION

(2 Peter 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:16)

He revealed God’s will through inspired Scripture.

1. Prompting of Prophets — He Moved Them (2 Pet. 1:21)

2. Producing of Pages — All Scripture Inspired (2 Tim. 3:16)

II. THE SPIRIT’S WORK IN REGENERATION

He gives spiritual life to those who believe.

1. Cleansing Renewal — Washed by Regeneration (Titus 3:5)

2. Creative Rebirth — Born of the Spirit (John 3:6)

3. Christlike Renewal — New Creature (2 Cor. 5:17)

III. THE SPIRIT’S WORK IN RESIDENCE

He permanently indwells believers in this dispensation.

IV. THE SPIRIT’S WORK IN REASSURANCE

He assures believers of their salvation.

V. THE SPIRIT’S WORK IN REVELATION OF THE MYSTERY

He revealed and now illuminates the Mystery given to Paul.

VI. THE SPIRIT’S WORK IN REFINING BELIEVERS

(Galatians 5:16–25)

He transforms believers from the inside out.

1. Power to Overcome Sin — Walk in the Spirit (Gal. 5:16)

2. Production of Spiritual Fruit — Fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22–23)

3. Progress in Sanctification — Live in the Spirit (Gal. 5:25)

VII. THE SPIRIT’S WORK IN RELATIONSHIP TO THE BODY OF CHRIST

(1 Corinthians 12:12–13; Ephesians 4:3)

He forms, unifies, and energizes the Church — the Body of Christ.

He helps believers understand God’s dispensational program.

He empowers believers to manifest Christ today.

2. Proof Through Living Epistles — Written by the Spirit (2 Cor. 3:3)

3. Presence in Gospel Proclamation — Spirit Gives Utterance (Acts 2:4—context of kingdom program)

CONCLUSION

The Holy Spirit is not silent, distant, or passive.
In every dispensation, He works — yet His emphasis today is not signs, tongues, or miracles, but:

indwelling,

sanctifying,

and placing believers into the Body of Christ.

The Spirit’s work today is internal, not external;
doctrinal, not dramatic;
Christ-centered, not experience-centered.
