THE WORKS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

INTRODUCTION

In every dispensation, the Holy Spirit works โ€” yet His methods, ministries, and manifestations differ according to Godโ€™s revealed program.

Under the Law, the Spirit came upon men temporarily.
In the kingdom program, He empowered miracles and signs.

But in the Dispensation of Grace, the Spirit performs a new and unique work in believers โ€” indwelling, sealing, and uniting us into the Body of Christ.

Understanding the Spiritโ€™s works is essential to avoid confusion, false doctrines, and misplaced expectations.

I. THE SPIRITโ€™S WORK IN REVELATION

(2 Peter 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:16)

He revealed Godโ€™s will through inspired Scripture.

1. Prompting of Prophets โ€” He Moved Them (2 Pet. 1:21)

2. Producing of Pages โ€” All Scripture Inspired (2 Tim. 3:16)

3. Preserving of Precepts โ€” Godโ€™s Words Protected (Ps. 12:6โ€“7)

II. THE SPIRITโ€™S WORK IN REGENERATION

(Titus 3:5; John 3:6)

He gives spiritual life to those who believe.

1. Cleansing Renewal โ€” Washed by Regeneration (Titus 3:5)

2. Creative Rebirth โ€” Born of the Spirit (John 3:6)

3. Christlike Renewal โ€” New Creature (2 Cor. 5:17)

III. THE SPIRITโ€™S WORK IN RESIDENCE

(Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 6:19)

He permanently indwells believers in this dispensation.

1. Personal Indwelling โ€” Spirit Lives in You (Rom. 8:9)

2. Perpetual Inhabitation โ€” Temple of the Holy Ghost (1 Cor. 6:19)

3. Positional Identification โ€” Christ in You (Col. 1:27)

IV. THE SPIRITโ€™S WORK IN REASSURANCE

(Romans 8:16; Ephesians 1:13โ€“14)

He assures believers of their salvation.

1. Spiritโ€™s Witness โ€” He Bears Witness (Rom. 8:16)

2. Spiritโ€™s Seal โ€” Sealed by the Holy Spirit (Eph. 1:13)

3. Spiritโ€™s Security โ€” Earnest of Inheritance (Eph. 1:14)

V. THE SPIRITโ€™S WORK IN REVELATION OF THE MYSTERY

(Ephesians 3:3โ€“5; 1 Corinthians 2:10)

He revealed and now illuminates the Mystery given to Paul.

1. Mystery Communicated โ€” Revealed to Paul (Eph. 3:3)

2. Mystery Confirmed โ€” Known by the Spirit (Eph. 3:5)

3. Mystery Comprehended โ€” Spirit Searches All Things (1 Cor. 2:10)

VI. THE SPIRITโ€™S WORK IN REFINING BELIEVERS

(Galatians 5:16โ€“25)

He transforms believers from the inside out.

1. Power to Overcome Sin โ€” Walk in the Spirit (Gal. 5:16)

2. Production of Spiritual Fruit โ€” Fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22โ€“23)

3. Progress in Sanctification โ€” Live in the Spirit (Gal. 5:25)

VII. THE SPIRITโ€™S WORK IN RELATIONSHIP TO THE BODY OF CHRIST

(1 Corinthians 12:12โ€“13; Ephesians 4:3)

1. Baptism into the Body โ€” By One Spirit (1 Cor. 12:13)

2. Bond of Peace โ€” Unity of the Spirit (Eph. 4:3)

3. Building Up Believers โ€” Effectual Working (Eph. 4:16)

VIII. THE SPIRITโ€™S WORK IN RIGHTLY DIVIDING SCRIPTURE

(2 Timothy 2:15; 1 Corinthians 2:13)

He helps believers understand Godโ€™s dispensational program.

1. Scriptural Separation โ€” Rightly Divide the Word (2 Tim. 2:15)

2. Spiritual Comparison โ€” Comparing Spiritual Things (1 Cor. 2:13)

3. Sound Comprehension โ€” Spirit-Enabled Understanding (1 Cor. 2:12)

IX. THE SPIRITโ€™S WORK IN REPRESENTATION TO THE WORLD

(Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 3:3)

He empowers believers to manifest Christ today.

1. Power for Witnessing โ€” Ye Shall Receive Power (Acts 1:8)

2. Proof Through Living Epistles โ€” Written by the Spirit (2 Cor. 3:3)

3. Presence in Gospel Proclamation โ€” Spirit Gives Utterance (Acts 2:4โ€”context of kingdom program)

CONCLUSION

The Holy Spirit is not silent, distant, or passive.
In every dispensation, He works โ€” yet His emphasis today is not signs, tongues, or miracles, but:

indwelling,

sealing,

teaching,

sanctifying,

and placing believers into the Body of Christ.

The Spiritโ€™s work today is internal, not external;
doctrinal, not dramatic;
Christ-centered, not experience-centered.
