𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗧 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗥𝗨𝗜𝗧: 𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗙 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗦, 𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗧 𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗦

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗧 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗥𝗨𝗜𝗧:
𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗙 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗦, 𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗧 𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗦

Galatians 5:22–23

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡:

The Christian life is not about trying to produce fruit, but about trusting the Spirit to bear it.
Just as a tree’s fruit reveals its root, so the believer’s life reveals its source — either the flesh or the Spirit.

In the Dispensation of Grace, we are not under the law but under grace (Romans 6:14).
The Spirit of God works in the believer to produce what the flesh cannot. The self breaks, but the Spirit builds.

Let’s examine how the root of the Spirit reveals the fruit of the believer, rightly divided in the light of Paul’s gospel.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗥𝗘𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡

Titus 3:5 — “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us…”

A. The Source of Life — John 3:6

“That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
The Spirit gives life where the law could only condemn.

B. The Seal of Salvation — Ephesians 1:13

“After that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.”
The Spirit’s presence proves new life in Christ.

C. The Start of Transformation — 2 Corinthians 5:17

“If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature…”
New root, new nature, new potential for fruit.

In this age of grace, regeneration happens instantly by faith in Paul’s gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1–4), not by law-keeping or rituals.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗨𝗟𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡

Galatians 5:16 — “Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”

A. The Direction of the Word — 2 Timothy 3:16

Scripture instructs believers how to live by grace, not by law.

B. The Division of Truth — 2 Timothy 2:15

“Rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Israel was told to obey the law; the Body of Christ is told to walk in the Spirit.

C. The Dependence on Revelation — Ephesians 3:2–3

“The dispensation of the grace of God… made known unto me by revelation.”

The Spirit-led life today follows Paul’s instructions for the Body, not Israel’s ordinances or kingdom laws.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗝𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗛

Galatians 5:17 — “The flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh…”

A. The Conflict in the Believer — Romans 7:18–19

Paul shows that the flesh and Spirit constantly war within.

B. The Corruption of the Flesh — Romans 8:8

“They that are in the flesh cannot please God.”

C. The Crucifixion of the Flesh — Galatians 5:24

“They that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”

The believer doesn’t fight the flesh with the law — he reckons himself dead with Christ (Romans 6:11) and walks by the Spirit.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗘𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗧

1 Corinthians 6:19 — “Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost…”

A. The Indwelling Spirit — Romans 8:9

“If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.”

B. The Instructing Spirit — John 16:13

“He will guide you into all truth.”

C. The Influencing Spirit — Ephesians 5:18

“Be filled with the Spirit.”

Unlike Old Testament saints who could lose the Spirit, believers today are permanently indwelt and sealed until the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30).

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗙 𝗢𝗙 𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗙

Romans 8:13 — “If ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.”

A. The Discipline of the Spirit — Hebrews 12:10

God corrects to conform us to Christ.

B. The Denial of Self — Galatians 2:20

“I am crucified with Christ…”

C. The Development through Suffering — Romans 5:3–4

Tribulation works patience, experience, and hope.

The Spirit reproves not by punishment under law but by transformation under grace, teaching believers to live soberly and righteously (Titus 2:11–12).

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗨𝗟𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗨𝗔𝗟 𝗙𝗥𝗨𝗜𝗧

Galatians 5:22–23 — “The fruit of the Spirit is…”

A. The Character of Christ — Romans 13:10

Love fulfills the law; Christ’s life becomes visible in ours.

B. The Conduct of Christians — Philippians 1:11

“Being filled with the fruits of righteousness…”

C. The Confirmation of Conversion — Ephesians 5:9

“The fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth.”

Spiritual fruit is not proof of law-keeping but of Spirit-living — the natural result of Christ’s life in us.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗗 𝗢𝗙 𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗪𝗔𝗟𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚

Galatians 6:8 — “He that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”

A. The Peace of Present Fellowship — Romans 8:6

“To be spiritually minded is life and peace.”

B. The Power of Personal Testimony — Philippians 2:15–16

Shining as lights in a dark world.

C. The Promise of Future Reward — 2 Corinthians 5:10

Every Spirit-led act will be rewarded at the Judgment Seat of Christ.

The believer’s works will be judged, not for salvation, but for reward — the fruit born through the Spirit will abide eternally.

𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡:

The root reveals the fruit — a Spirit-led believer bears evidence of divine life. The self breaks under sin, but the Spirit builds through grace.

In this Dispensation of Grace, God isn’t demanding fruit through law; He’s producing fruit through life — the indwelling life of Christ!

To be fruitful, we must stop striving and start surrendering.

𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗧𝗢 𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡:

WALK IN THE SPIRIT — Galatians 5:16
Let Him lead every step, not your feelings.

WAR AGAINST THE FLESH — Romans 8:13
The cross broke sin’s power; live like it’s true.

WITNESS BY YOUR FRUIT — John 15:8
The world sees Christ not through your talk, but through your fruit.

𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦:

The root determines the fruit.
The Spirit builds what the self breaks.
The law demands, but grace delivers.
The flesh hinders, but the Spirit helps.
The fruit of the Spirit is not effort — it’s evidence.
The life of Christ in us is the source of every virtue.
The reward comes to those who walk in the Spirit, not in self.

“𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 — 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘂𝘀.”
