THE “I WILL” vs. THE “I AM”

INTRODUCTION

The Bible contrasts two voices and two natures:
Lucifer says, “I WILL” — a declaration of pride, rebellion, and self-exaltation.
Jesus says, “I AM” — a revelation of deity, humility, and saving sufficiency.

One seeks to take God’s place.
The other IS God who took our place.

Right division helps us see who Christ is, what He accomplished, and how pride always opposes grace.
“God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” — James 4:6

PRIDE — THE ROOT OF LUCIFER
Isaiah 14:12–15

A. Self-exaltation — “I will exalt my throne”
B. Self-will — God’s authority rejected
C. Self-destruction — Pride leads to a fall
Lucifer’s first sin was not murder—but me-first ambition.

PERSON — THE REVELATION OF CHRIST
John 8:58 | Exodus 3:14

A. Eternal existence — “Before Abraham was, I AM”
B. Divine identity — Equal with God
C. Unchanging nature — The same yesterday, today, forever

PRESUMPTION — LUCIFER’S FIVE “I WILLS”
Isaiah 14:13–14

A. He sought heaven’s throne
B. He sought God’s position
C. He sought God’s glory
Pride always wants position without permission.

PROVISION — CHRIST’S SEVEN “I AMs”
John 6:35; 8:12; 10:9; 10:11; 11:25; 14:6; 15:1

A. Life supplied — Bread, Light, Door
B. Leadership shown — Shepherd, Way
C. Life secured — Resurrection and Life
Lucifer says “I will take.”
Jesus says “I am enough.”

PURPOSE — REBELLION vs. REDEMPTION
John 10:10 | Ephesians 1:7

A. Lucifer destroys — Steal, kill, destroy
B. Christ redeems — Forgiveness through blood
C. Grace triumphs — Redemption, not replacement
Satan wants worship. Christ gives salvation.

PAYMENT — SELF-EXALTATION vs. SELF-SACRIFICE
Philippians 2:6–8 | 2 Corinthians 5:21

A. Lucifer lifted himself
B. Christ lowered Himself
C. Christ bore our sin
Salvation flows from humility, not ambition.

POSITION — FALLEN ANGEL vs. HEAD OF THE BODY
Colossians 1:18 | Ephesians 1:22–23

A. Lucifer fell from heaven
B. Christ reigns as Head
C. Believers are placed in Him
In truth, Christ is Head of the Body, not a kingdom throne yet.

PROGRAM — KINGDOM CLAIM vs. MYSTERY REVELATION
Isaiah 14:13 | Ephesians 3:1–9

A. Lucifer targets Israel’s throne
B. Christ reveals the mystery to Paul
C. Grace program operates today
Satan attacks right division to confuse doctrine.

PROOF — THE END OF EACH PATH
Revelation 20:10 | 1 Corinthians 15:25

A. Lucifer is judged eternally
B. Christ reigns victoriously
C. Grace believers reign in Him
Pride ends in damnation.
Faith ends in glorification.

CONCLUSION

Lucifer says, “I WILL BE LIKE THE MOST HIGH.”
Jesus says, “I AM.”
One rebelled and fell.
One obeyed and saved.

You must choose:
Self-will
Or Savior’s will
