THE DENOMINATIONAL SPIRIT IS NOT FROM GOD

INTRODUCTION

In the Dispensation of Grace, God is not forming denominations but one Body in Christ (Ephesians 4:4). Denominationalism elevates names, systems, traditions, and leaders above the simplicity of the gospel and the doctrine revealed to the Apostle Paul.

While God has used individuals within denominations, the denominational spirit itself produces division, confusion, and competition, all of which contradict God’s present program. Scripture commands us to rightly divide the Word of Truth, not divide the Body of Christ.

β‘  THE SOURCE OF DIVISION

1 Corinthians 1:10–13

A. Carnal Allegiance – Following men instead of Christ. (1 Cor. 1:12)

B. Contentious Attitudes – Strife proves fleshly thinking. (1 Cor. 3:3)

C. Confused Authority – Christ divided by denominations. (1 Cor. 1:13)

Dispensational Truth: Division began when believers failed to grasp Body truth.

β‘‘ THE SPIRIT OF THE FLESH

Galatians 5:19–21

A. Sectarian Works – Heresies listed as works of the flesh. (Gal. 5:20)

B. Self-Exaltation – Pride fuels denominational labels. (Prov. 13:10)

C. Spiritual Immaturity – Flesh dominates over doctrine. (1 Cor. 3:1)

Denominationalism thrives where flesh is unchecked.

β‘’ THE FAILURE TO RIGHTLY DIVIDE

2 Timothy 2:15

A. Scriptural Confusion – Mixing Israel and the Church. (Rom. 9:4)

B. Systematic Corruption – Law applied to Grace believers. (Gal. 5:1)

Denominations exist because dispensations are ignored.

Mark 7:7–9

C. Persevere in Grace – Endure rejection. (2 Tim. 3:12)

Truth will always be opposed by organized religion.

CONCLUSION

The denominational spirit divides, but the Spirit of God unites in truth.

God is not calling believers to join denominations, but to stand in the doctrine revealed to Paul, walk worthy of their calling, and proclaim the gospel of grace without compromise.
