SALVATION: DEPENDING ON CHRIST, NOT YOURSELF

INTRODUCTION

Many people fear losing salvation because they were taught that salvation depends on their performance. The image of a drowning man reaching for a life ring illustrates a powerful truth:
Salvation is not about holding on β€” it is about being held.

Paul’s gospel reveals that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8–9). If you believe salvation can be lost, it reveals where your confidence truly lies.

DEPENDENCE EXPOSED – What You Trust Determines Your Security
Ephesians 2:8–9; Galatians 2:16

False belief: Salvation depends on continued obedience
Fleshly mindset: Trusting self instead of Savior
Grace denied: Mixing works with faith nullifies grace
If salvation depends on you, it can be lost by you.

DELIVERER ALONE – Christ Saves Completely

Hebrews 7:25; Colossians 2:10

Complete Savior: Christ saves to the uttermost
Finished work: β€œIt is finished” (John 19:30)
Full sufficiency: Nothing left to add
Christ doesn’t save halfway β€” He saves forever.

DROWNING ILLUSTRATED – Faith Is Receiving, Not Rescuing Yourself
Romans 4:5; Titus 3:5

Sinking sinner: Helpless without divine aid
Life ring: Christ provided, not achieved
Resting faith: Stop striving, start trusting
You don’t hold onto salvation β€” salvation holds onto you.

DOCTRINE DISTORTED – Losing Salvation Comes from Mixing Dispensations
2 Timothy 2:15; Romans 11:6

Israel’s program: Conditional blessings under law
Church Age: Unconditional grace under Paul
Error exposed: Applying kingdom warnings to the Body of Christ
Confusion comes from not rightly dividing.

DEBT PAID – Sin Already Settled at the Cross

Colossians 2:13–14; Romans 8:1

Debt canceled: Past, present, future sins
No condemnation: Legal status changed forever
Perfect righteousness: Imputed, not earned
If Christ paid all sins, what sin can undo salvation?

DESTINY SECURED – Sealed by the Holy Spirit
Ephesians 1:13–14; Ephesians 4:30

Sealed believer: Not probationary, but permanent
God’s possession: Not your grip, but God’s seal
Until redemption: Security lasts until glorification
You are kept by God, not by consistency.

DISTINCTION MADE – Salvation vs Fellowship
1 Corinthians 3:15; 2 Timothy 2:13

Salvation: Cannot be lost
Fellowship: Can be broken
Rewards: Can be forfeited
Loss of reward is not loss of salvation.

DECEPTION REVEALED – Fear-Based Teaching Weakens Faith
Romans 8:38–39; Galatians 5:1

Fear controls: Legalism enslaves
Grace ignored: Liberty replaced with anxiety
Confidence destroyed: Believers doubt God’s promise
Fear thrives where grace is misunderstood.

DELIGHT IN GRACE – Serve God from Security, Not Fear
Romans 6:14; Titus 2:11–12

Motivation changed: Love, not terror
Growth empowered: Grace teaches godliness
Freedom enjoyed: Secure believers serve joyfully
Grace does not promote sin β€” it produces holiness.

CONCLUSION

If you believe you can lose salvation, you believe you are your own savior.
But Paul declares plainly:

β€œBeing confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it…”
Philippians 1:6
Salvation that depends on man is unstable.
Salvation that depends on Christ is eternal.
