“Study to shew thyself approved unto God… rightly dividing the word of truth.”2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

 

INTRODUCTION

Confusion in Christianity does not come from the Bible—it comes from mixing what God has divided.

Many doctrines collapse because Israel is confused with the Church, Law with Grace, prophecy with mystery.

God commands believers not just to read the Bible, but to RIGHTLY DIVIDE it.

Truth becomes clear when God’s program for Israel is distinguished from His program for the Body of Christ.

 

The PRINCIPLE of Division

2 Timothy 2:15

A. A Required Command – God commands division, not suggestion (2 Tim. 2:15).

B. A Responsible Calling – Workmen must handle Scripture accurately (2 Tim. 2:15).

C. A Reverent Commitment – Approval comes from God, not men (Gal. 1:10).

Right division is obedience, not arrogance.

 

The PEOPLE Distinguished

1 Corinthians 10:32

A. Jews Identified – God has a covenant people, Israel (Rom. 9:4–5).

B. Gentiles Included – Nations dealt with apart from covenant (Eph. 2:12).

C. Church Inserted – A new Body revealed in mystery (Eph. 3:3–6).

God works with different people in different dispensations.

 

The PURPOSE Defined

Genesis 12:1–3 / Ephesians 1:3

A. Earthly Purpose for Israel – Kingdom, land, throne (Gen. 12:1–3).

B. Heavenly Purpose for the Church – Spiritual blessings in Christ (Eph. 1:3).

C. Eternal Purpose of God – All summed up in Christ (Eph. 1:10).

Earthly promises are not heavenly promises.

 

The PREACHING Distinguished

Matthew 4:17 / Acts 20:24

A. Kingdom Gospel Proclaimed – “Repent, for the kingdom is at hand” (Matt. 4:17).

B. Grace Gospel Proclaimed – “The gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:24).

C. Cross Gospel Clarified – Death, burial, resurrection (1 Cor. 15:1–4).

Mixing gospels produces a false gospel.

 

The POSITION Explained

Isaiah 9:6–7 / Ephesians 1:22–23

A. Christ as King – Ruling Israel on David’s throne (Isa. 9:6–7).

B. Christ as Head – Over the Body, the Church (Eph. 1:22–23).

C. Christ as Savior – Central to both programs (John 4:42).

Same Christ, different offices.

 

The PRACTICE Differentiated

Galatians 3:23 / Romans 6:14
A. Law for Israel – A tutor until Christ (Gal. 3:23–24).

B. Grace for the Church – Not under law but grace (Rom. 6:14).

C. Liberty in Christ – Walk by the Spirit (Gal. 5:1).

Law-bound Christianity denies grace.

 

The PURIFICATION Contrasted

Mark 1:4 / 1 Corinthians 12:13

A. Water Baptism for Israel – Repentance and preparation (Mark 1:4).

B. Spirit Baptism for the Church – One Body in Christ (1 Cor. 12:13).

C. No Ritual Requirement – Salvation by faith alone (Eph. 2:8–9).

External rites cannot replace internal regeneration.

 

The PROPHECY Separated

Acts 1:11 / 1 Thessalonians 4:17

A. Second Coming to Earth – Christ returns to Israel (Acts 1:11).

B. Rapture in the Air – Church meets Christ above (1 Thess. 4:17).

C. Tribulation for Israel – Not for the Body of Christ (Jer. 30:7).

Prophecy belongs to Israel; mystery belongs to the Church.

 

The PROFIT of Right Division

Romans 15:4

A. Doctrinal Clarity – No contradictions (Rom. 15:4).

B. Spiritual Confidence – Assurance in grace (Rom. 8:1).

C. Scriptural Consistency – God’s Word harmonized (Psalm 119:160).

Right division protects truth and preserves faith.

 

CONCLUSION

Rightly dividing the Word of Truth does not divide Christ—it displays God’s wisdom. When Israel and the Church are confused, Scripture is distorted. When they are distinguished, truth shines clearly.God’s Word is perfect—but it must be handled properly.
