PROMISES OF WEALTH OR THE POWER OF THE CROSS

INTRODUCTION

In the last days, many pulpits promise comfort without the cross, wealth without repentance, and success without sacrifice.

But Scripture—rightly divided—reveals only one gospel for this dispensation: Paul’s Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1–4).

Today, we will expose the sharp contrast between the Prosperity Gospel Preacher and the Pauline Gospel Preacher through 9 dispensational truths.

PROMISE — RICHES vs REDEMPTION

A. Prosperity promises material gain
B. Paul proclaims free justification
C. Grace—not gold—saves sinners

The true gospel promises salvation, not success.

PRIORITY — COMFORT vs THE CROSS

Dispensational Truth:
No cross preached = no Christ proclaimed.

POWER — SELF vs THE SAVIOR

A. Prosperity empowers self-confidence
B. Paul exalts gospel power
C. God’s power saves, not motivation
Pauline Emphasis:
The gospel works because Christ finished the work.

PURPOSE — SUCCESS vs SANCTIFICATION

A. Prosperity measures blessings by wealth
B. Paul measures gain by Christ
C. Spiritual growth outweighs material growth
Right Division:
God’s goal is conformity to Christ, not comfort in the world.

PLEA — SEED MONEY vs SOULS

Dispensational Warning:
Smooth preaching often hides false doctrine.

PATH — EMPOWERMENT vs DENIAL

A. Prosperity builds self-esteem
B. Paul teaches self-denial
C. Christ increases as self decreases
Reality:
The flesh is not fixed—it is crucified.

POSSESSION — EARTHLY vs ETERNAL

A. Prosperity treasures the now
B. Paul treasures the heavenlies
C. Eternal riches surpass temporary wealth
Pauline Hope:
Believers are already rich—in Christ.

PROOF — CROWD vs CONVERT
2 Timothy 3:12; 1 Corinthians 15:58 (KJV)

A. Prosperity attracts crowds
B. Paul produces disciples
C. Faithfulness proves truth
Dispensational Conclusion:
Popularity is not validation—truth is.

CONCLUSION

The Prosperity Gospel:
Centers on man
Avoids suffering
Promises earthly gain

The Pauline Gospel:
Centers on Christ
Embraces the cross
Promises eternal life
“For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 4:5)

CALL TO ACTION

Reject another gospel
Rest in Christ’s finished work
Proclaim grace boldly
Choose Paul’s Gospel over promises of gold.
