NO REST IN PEACE IN HELL

INTRODUCTION

Many today comfort themselves with the phrase “Rest in Peace”, but this is not the destiny of the lost. In the Dispensation of Grace, God offers salvation freely through the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1–4). But those who reject the gospel do not enter rest—they enter ruin.

Hell is not a temporary correction center. It is a conscious, eternal, inescapable place of torment prepared originally for Satan and his angels (Matthew 25:41). There is no peace, no pause, no relief, no rest.

Let us examine 9 truths about why there is NO REST IN PEACE IN HELL.

THE REALITY OF HELL — Hell Exists

Hell is not a myth but a literal place.

A. A Declared Reality (Matthew 10:28)
Jesus affirms hell’s existence as a place where the soul and body perish.

B. A Described Realm (Luke 16:23)
The rich man lifted up his eyes being in torments—conscious, awake.

C. A Designed Retribution (Matthew 25:46)
Everlasting punishment is the destiny of the unsaved.

Illustration: Turning off the lights doesn’t make the sun disappear. Denying hell doesn’t remove its reality.

THE RUIN OF THE LOST — Hell Is Painful

There is no comfort in hell.

A. The Fire Burns (Mark 9:48)
The fire is unquenchable.

B. The Flesh Suffers (Revelation 14:11)
The smoke of torment ascends forever.

C. The Fear Intensifies (2 Thessalonians 1:9)
Everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord.

Illustration: Imagine pain that never fades and fear that never ends—hell magnifies both endlessly.

THE RESTLESSNESS OF HELL — Hell Has No Relief

Hell offers no rest, not even for a second.

A. No Resting Place (Revelation 14:11)
They have no rest day nor night.

B. No Refreshing Drop (Luke 16:24)
A single drop of water was denied to the rich man.

C. No Reprieve Granted (Hebrews 10:27)
Nothing but fearful judgment.

THE REMORSE IN HELL — Hell Remembers

Mental torment is part of eternal punishment.

“Son, remember…”
Memory becomes torture.

B. Regret of Rejection (Proverbs 29:1)
Stiff-necked unbelief leads to sudden destruction.

C. Rehearsing the Gospel (John 3:18)
Condemned for not believing.

Illustration: The worst nightmares are those where the mind tortures itself—hell amplifies this eternally.

THE REJECTION THAT LEADS TO HELL — Hell Is Self-Chosen

In the Dispensation of Grace, people go to hell for rejecting the gospel, not for failing the law.

A. The Gospel Is Clear (1 Corinthians 15:1–4)
Christ died, was buried, and rose again.

B. The Grace Is Free (Romans 10:13)
“Whosoever” may call upon the Lord.

C. The Guilt Is Certain (John 3:36)
He that believeth not is condemned already.

THE RESERVATION OF HELL — Hell Is Forever

Hell has no exit doors, no probation, no parole.

A. Eternal Duration (Matthew 25:46)
Punishment lasts as long as life lasts—forever.

B. Eternal Darkness (Jude 1:13)
Blackness of darkness forever.

C. Eternal Damnation (Mark 3:29)
“Hath never forgiveness.”

Illustration: A prison sentence on earth ends. In hell, the calendar never flips.

THE RESTRICTION OF ESCAPE — Hell Cannot Be Left

Once entered, hell cannot be exited.

A. A Fixed Separation (Luke 16:26)

The lake of fire is the final judgment.

C. A Fearful State (Hebrews 9:27)
After death—judgment, not a second chance.

THE RECKONING OF GOD — Hell Is Just

God is not cruel; hell is the righteous result of rejecting His Son.

A. God Judges Perfectly (Psalm 9:8)
No unfair verdicts.

B. God Judges Personally (Romans 2:16)
By Jesus Christ Himself.

C. God Judges Permanently (Revelation 20:12)
Books opened—judgment final.

Illustration: A judge offering a pardon is merciful; rejecting the pardon brings rightful consequences.

THE REASON TO PREACH HELL — Hell Motivates Ministry

Preaching hell is biblical because it magnifies grace.

A. Compelled by Compassion (Jude 1:23)
Pulling others out of the fire.

B. Commissioned by Christ (Acts 20:27)
Declaring the whole counsel of God.

C. Charged in this Dispensation (2 Corinthians 5:20)
Ambassadors pleading for reconciliation.

Illustration: A firefighter warns because he loves—not because he hates.

CONCLUSION

Hell is real. Hell is restless. Hell is relentless.
There is NO REST IN PEACE IN HELL—only eternal, conscious torment.

But in the Dispensation of Grace, salvation is available right now.
Christ already paid the full price.
Only unbelief stands between a sinner and heaven.

Receive Christ today—tomorrow is not promised.

Reach the lost—warn them lovingly.

Rejoice in grace—you are saved from wrath through Him (Romans 5:9).
