MONEY-DRIVEN PREACHERS ARE NOT GOD-SENT

2 Corinthians 2:17 (KJV)
β€œFor we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God…”

INTRODUCTION

We are living in the Dispensation of Grace, yet never before has the gospel been commercialized, merchandised, and monetized like today.

God never called preachers to be fundraisers, salesmen, or religious CEOs.

The image before us exposes a sobering truth:
When money becomes the motive, God is no longer the Master.

CORRUPT MOTIVE
They Preach for Profit, Not for People
1 Timothy 6:5

Perversion – Supposing gain is godliness
Priority – Money over ministry
Pollution – Gospel mixed with greed
God’s message is never driven by financial appetite.

COMMERCIAL MESSAGE
They Sell the Gospel Instead of Proclaiming It
2 Corinthians 2:17

Corruption – Word of God handled deceitfully
Compromise – Truth softened to keep donors
Counterfeit – Gospel treated like a product
The gospel is proclaimed freely, not packaged for sale.

COVETOUS MESSENGERS
They Use People as Merchandise
2 Peter 2:1–3

Exploitation – Making merchandise of souls
Manipulation – Emotional pressure for money
Motivation – Greed, not grace
God’s servants feed sheepβ€”they do not fleece them.

CONTRADICT SCRIPTURE
Their Lifestyle Denies Apostolic Pattern
Acts 20:33–35

Paul’s Example – No coveting silver or gold
Provision – God supplies, not schemes
Practice – Laboring rather than begging
Apostolic ministry never revolved around money drives.

CARNAL APPEAL
They Preach to Flesh, Not Faith
Romans 16:18

Flattery – Smooth words for offerings
Flesh-Focus – Promises of wealth and success
Fraud – Using God’s name to enrich self
Grace preaching lifts Christ, not carnal desires.

CROSSED PRIORITIES
They Glory in Wealth, Not the Cross
Galatians 6:14

Boasting – In buildings, budgets, brands
Blindness – Ignoring suffering and sacrifice
Balance Lost – Cross replaced by cash
True ministers glory only in the cross of Christ.

COUNTERFEIT CALLING
They Are Sent by Men, Not by God
Jeremiah 23:21

Self-Appointed – No divine calling
System-Driven – Controlled by organizations
Self-Serving – Ministry becomes a business
God sends preachersβ€”money sends hirelings.

CORRUPTED CONSCIENCE
They Cannot Serve God and Mammon
Matthew 6:24

Division – Double-minded leadership
Devotion – Heart anchored to riches
Deception – Claiming God while serving money
Where money rules, Christ is displaced.

CERTAIN CONDEMNATION
God Will Judge Greedy Preachers
James 5:1–3

Warning – Misery is coming
Witness – Riches testify against them
Wrath – Judgment awaits unrepentant greed
Earthly wealth will not shield them from divine judgment.

CALL TO ACTION

Mark money-driven preachers (Romans 16:17)
Measure every message by Scripture
Follow Christ, not charisma

β€œProve all things; hold fast that which is good.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:21

CONCLUSION

God never said:
β€œRaise funds”
β€œBuild empires”
β€œSell blessings”

He said:
β€œPreach the Word.” – 2 Timothy 4:2
When money becomes the mission,
the message is no longer from God.
