MARY RIGHTLY DIVIDED TRADITION vs TRUTH β€” DEVOTION vs DOCTRINE

Key Text: 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

INTRODUCTION

Mary is one of the most misunderstood figures in Christianityβ€”not because Scripture is unclear, but because tradition has spoken louder than truth.
When Mary is removed from her biblical place and elevated beyond Scripture, Christ’s sufficiency is diminished.

A Dispensational approach does not attack peopleβ€”it tests doctrine by the Word, especially through Pauline revelation for today (Ephesians 3:1–9).

Today we will RIGHTLY DIVIDE: MARY OF CATHOLIC vs MARY OF THE BIBLE

POSITION β€” EXALTED vs ELECTED
Luke 1:28; Romans 11:6

A. Catholic Position:
Mary exalted as Queen of Heaven
Elevation beyond Scripture
B. Biblical Position:
Mary elected by grace, not royalty
β€œHighly favoured” β‰  divine status
C. Pauline Clarity:
Grace excludes boasting (Rom 11:6)

PURPOSE β€” CO-REDEEMER vs CONDUIT
Luke 1:38; 1 Timothy 2:5

A. Catholic Teaching:
Mary shares in redemption
B. Biblical Teaching:
Mary was a vessel, not a savior
C. Pauline Truth:
ONE mediatorβ€”Christ alone

PRAYER β€” PETITIONED vs PASSIVE
Luke 11:2; Colossians 1:18

A. Catholic Practice:
Prayers offered to Mary
B. Biblical Record:
Mary never received prayer
C. Pauline Pattern:
Christ is the Headβ€”never Mary

PURITY β€” SINLESS CLAIM vs SAVED SOUL
Luke 1:47; Romans 3:23

A. Catholic Claim:
Immaculate conception
B. Mary’s Confession:
β€œMy spirit rejoiceth in God my Saviour”
C. Pauline Doctrine:
ALL have sinnedβ€”no exception

PROGENY β€” PERPETUAL VIRGIN vs PLAIN MOTHER
Mark 6:3; Galatians 4:4

A. Catholic Tradition:
Mary remained perpetually virgin
B. Biblical Fact:
Jesus had brothers and sisters
C. Pauline Emphasis:
Christ’s humanityβ€”not Mary’s mysticism

PRAISE β€” WORSHIPED vs WITNESSED
Acts 10:25–26; Luke 1:48

A. Catholic Devotion:
Mary venerated and adored
B. Biblical Reality:
Mary magnified the Lordβ€”not herself
C. Pauline Warning:
Creature worship condemned (Rom 1:25)

PLACE β€” CO-REGENT vs COMPLIANT SERVANT

John 2:5; Philippians 2:9–11

A. Catholic Rank:
Mary elevated near Christ’s throne
B. Mary’s Words:
β€œWhatsoever HE saith unto you, do it”
C. Pauline Authority:
Every knee bows to CHRISTβ€”not Mary

PROCLAMATION β€” TRADITION vs TRUTH
Colossians 2:8; Ephesians 3:9

A. Catholic Source:
Church tradition & councils
B. Biblical Source:
Scripture alone
C. Pauline Revelation:
Mystery revealed to Paulβ€”not Mary

PRIORITY β€” MARIAN DEVOTION vs MAGNIFIED CHRIST
1 Corinthians 1:23; Galatians 6:14

A. Catholic Focus:
Devotion to Mary
B. Biblical Focus:
Preaching Christ crucified
C. Pauline Glory:
Boast only in the cross

CONCLUSION

Mary was blessed, but she was not divine.
She was used by God, but she was not equal to Christ.
She was favored by grace, but she needed salvation like all sinners.
When Mary is elevated, Christ is obscured.
When Scripture is rightly divided, Christ is magnified.
