INTRODUCTION

In the Dispensation of Grace, God deals with the Body of Christ according to Pauline revelation (Rom. 16:25–26). Many errors arise when Scripture is not rightly divided (2 Tim. 2:15). One of the most abused texts is Malachi 3:10, a covenant command to Israel under the Law, wrongly imposed on the Church today.

Scripture commands believers to mark and avoid those who teach contrary doctrine (Rom. 16:17). Let us examine this biblically and lovingly—yet firmly.

 

① THE COVENANT CONTEXT

(Malachi 3:7–10; Exodus 19:5–6)

A. Covenantal People — Malachi addresses Israel, not the Church.

B. Conditional Promise — Blessings tied to obedience under the Law.

C. Commanded Storehouse — Refers to Israel’s Levitical system, not church offerings.

 

② THE LEGAL REQUIREMENT

(Deuteronomy 12:5–7; Numbers 18:21–24)

A. Levitical Support — Tithes sustained Levites who had no land.

B. Land-Based Law — Tithes tied to crops and livestock in Israel.

C. Law-Bound Obligation — Never commanded to the Body of Christ.

 

③ THE CROSS COMPLETION

(Romans 10:4; Colossians 2:14)

A. Christ Fulfilled the Law — The Law ended as a system of righteousness.

B. Cancelled Ordinances — Legal requirements nailed to the cross.

C. Changed Administration — We live under grace, not Mosaic law.

 

④ THE CHURCH CHARACTER

(Ephesians 1:22–23; Colossians 1:24–27)

A. Body of Christ — A new organism revealed to Paul.

B. Heavenly Calling — Not an earthly kingdom like Israel.

C. Mystery Truth — Hidden before, now revealed (Eph. 3:1–6).

 

⑤ THE GRACE CONTRIBUTION

(2 Corinthians 9:6–7)

A. Voluntary Giving — “Not of necessity.”

B. Cheerful Heart — God loves joyful, freewill givers.

C. No Percentage Command — No tithe demanded in grace.

 

⑥ THE GREEDY CORRUPTION

(1 Timothy 6:5–10; 2 Peter 2:1–3)

A. Merchandise Ministry — Using Scripture to exploit believers.

B. Money-Driven Message — Gain presented as godliness.

C. Manipulative Methods — Fear, curses, and promises abused.

 

⑦ THE RIGHT DIVISION

(2 Timothy 2:15; Romans 15:4)

A. Proper Application — All Scripture is for us, not all to us.

B. Pauline Priority — Doctrine for today found in Paul’s epistles.

C. Avoided Confusion — Mixing Law and Grace produces bondage.

 

⑧ THE REQUIRED CAUTION

(Romans 16:17–18; Titus 3:10)

A. Mark Them — Identify those teaching contrary doctrine.

B. Avoid Them — Separation is biblical, not unloving.

C. Protect the Flock — Error spreads quickly if unchecked.

 

⑨ THE TRUE COMPENSATION

(Ephesians 1:3; Philippians 4:19)

A. Spiritual Blessings — Already blessed in heavenly places.

B. Providential Care — God supplies needs, not greed.

C. Eternal Reward — The Judgment Seat of Christ, not earthly riches.

 

CALL TO ACTION

Search the Scriptures daily (Acts 17:11). Rightly divide the Word of Truth (2 Tim. 2:15). Mark and avoid false teachers (Rom. 16:17). Give freely, joyfully, and biblically—under grace (2 Cor. 9:7).

 

CONCLUSION

Malachi 3:10 belongs to Israel under the Law, not the Church under Grace. When pastors import Israel’s covenant commands into the Body of Christ, they distort doctrine and damage disciples. Love demands truth.

Truth demands discernment. Scripture commands us to mark and avoid those who refuse sound doctrine.
