GOOD IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH

(Why the β€œGood Person” Gospel Still Leads to Hell)
Key Text: Romans 1:16 (KJV)

INTRODUCTION

One of the greatest lies Satan has ever sold is this:
β€œI’m a good person.”
Hell is not filled with atheists aloneβ€”it is filled with people who trusted their goodness instead of Christ.

In this Dispensation of Grace, God has made salvation simple, clear, and complete, but man keeps trying to improve it with works.

Today we will see 9 Pauline truths that expose the false hope of goodness and exalt the only gospel that saves.

DECEIVED BY GOODNESS
Romans 3:10
Human goodness is a dangerous delusion.

A. Declared None Righteous – God’s verdict
Romans 3:10
B. Deceived by Comparison – β€œBetter than others”
Luke 18:11
C. Denied God’s Standard – Absolute holiness
Isaiah 64:6
Dispensational Insight:
God does not grade on a curveβ€”He judges by perfection.

DAMNED BY SIN
Romans 3:23
One sin is enough to condemn.

A. All Have Sinned – No exceptions
Romans 3:23
B. Accountable to God – Every soul judged
Romans 14:12
C. Awaiting Judgment – Apart from Christ
Hebrews 9:27
Dispensational Insight:
Sin is not measured by societyβ€”it is judged by God.

DEATH AS THE WAGES
Romans 6:23
Sin always paysβ€”death is the paycheck.

A. Earned Condemnation – Wages of sin
Romans 6:23
B. Eternal Consequences – Not temporary
2 Thessalonians 1:9
C. Escapeless Without Christ – No second chance
Luke 16:26
Dispensational Insight:
Hell is not unfairβ€”it is earned.

DECEPTION OF WORKS
Ephesians 2:8–9
Works save no one.

A. Excluded by Grace – Not of works
Ephesians 2:8–9
B. Exposed by Scripture – Law cannot save
Galatians 2:16
C. Exalted by Pride – Man boasting
Romans 4:2
Dispensational Insight:
Works don’t add to salvationβ€”they deny it.

DEATH OF CHRIST
1 Corinthians 15:3
Christ died because goodness couldn’t save.

A. Substitutionary Death – β€œFor our sins”
1 Corinthians 15:3
B. Sufficient Sacrifice – Paid in full
Hebrews 10:12
C. Sin Removed Judicially – God satisfied
Romans 3:25
Dispensational Insight:
If goodness could save, Christ never needed to die.

DEPOSIT OF THE GOSPEL
1 Corinthians 15:1–4
Salvation is a message, not a method.

A. Death – Christ died for our sins
1 Corinthians 15:3
B. Burial – Proof of death
1 Corinthians 15:4
C. Resurrection – Victory over death
1 Corinthians 15:4
Dispensational Insight:
This is the only saving gospel for today.

DELIVERANCE BY BELIEF
Romans 1:16
Faith alone saves completely.

A. Belief Saves Instantly – No probation
Acts 16:31
B. Belief Justifies Fully – Declared righteous
Romans 5:1
C. Belief Secures Eternally – No condemnation
Romans 8:1
Dispensational Insight:
Salvation happens the moment faith rests in Christ.

DESTINY DECIDED NOW
2 Corinthians 6:2
Salvation is not decided after death.

A. Appointed Time – Now is the day
2 Corinthians 6:2
B. After Death Judgment – No repentance in hell
Hebrews 9:27
C. Accepted or Rejected – Christ the dividing line
John 3:18
Dispensational Insight:
Delay is a decisionβ€”and it is deadly.

DECLARATION OF FAITH
Romans 10:13
The gospel must be believedβ€”not admired.

A. Calling on the Lord – Faith response
Romans 10:13
B. Confession of Truth – Christ alone
Romans 10:9
C. Commitment of Trust – Not works
Philippians 3:9
Dispensational Insight:
Good people go to hellβ€”believing people go to heaven.

CONCLUSION

Hell is not for people who tried too littleβ€”
It is for people who trusted the wrong thing.
Good works
Moral living
Religious effort
Only the finished work of Jesus Christ saves.

CALL TO ACTION

Stop trusting your goodness
Stop trusting religion
Start trusting Christ alone
Romans 1:16 (KJV)

FINAL THOUGHTS

Goodness cannot erase sin
Works cannot remove guilt
Grace alone saves
The cross proves you were not good enoughβ€”
but Christ was.
Believe the gospel. Escape hell. Receive life.
