DON’T FOLLOW YOUR PASTOR TO HELL

Loyalty to Christ Must Exceed Loyalty to Clergy
Key Text: Galatians 1:6–9 (KJV)
Foundational Command: 2 Timothy 2:15

INTRODUCTION

In Scripture, pastors are not infallible.
God never commanded believers to follow men blindlyβ€”He commanded them to follow the truth.

In this Dispensation of Grace, salvation is revealed through Paul as by grace through faith alone (Eph. 2:8–9).
Any leaderβ€”no matter how sincereβ€”who adds works or changes the gospel must be tested by Scripture.

PRIORITY β€” Praising Pastors vs. Praising Christ
Colossians 1:18 | Galatians 1:10

A. Immature Loyalty β€” Pastor praised above all
B. Biblical Loyalty β€” Christ preeminent
C. Proper Priority β€” Glory to God, not men
Truth:
Paul sought God’s approval, not man’s applause.

POSITION β€” Men’s Authority vs. God’s Authority
Colossians 2:8 | 2 Timothy 3:16–17

A. Human Authority β€” Traditions over Scripture
B. Divine Authority β€” God’s Word final
C. Proper Position β€” Scripture judges leaders
Pauline Warning:
Philosophy and tradition corrupt pure doctrine.

PROCLAMATION β€” Pure Gospel vs. Perverted Gospel
1 Corinthians 15:1–4 | Galatians 1:7

A. Pure Gospel β€” Christ’s finished work
B. Perverted Gospel β€” Faith plus works
C. Peril of Addition β€” Another gospel damns
Dispensational Clarity:
Works added to grace nullify grace.

PRACTICE β€” Blind Trust vs. Berean Testing
Acts 17:11 | 1 Thessalonians 5:21

A. Blind Following β€” Never questioning doctrine
B. Biblical Testing β€” Searching the Scriptures
C. Wise Practice β€” Proving all things
Balance:
Faith is not gullibilityβ€”it is grounded truth.

PERVERSION β€” Shepherds Feeding vs. Shepherds Fleecing
Acts 20:29–30 | 2 Peter 2:1–3

A. Faithful Shepherds β€” Feed the flock
B. False Shepherds β€” Exploit the flock
C. Forewarned Danger β€” Wolves from within
Paul’s Prophetic Warning:
False teachers arise inside churches.

PERSUASION β€” Sound Doctrine vs. Seducing Speech
Romans 16:17–18 | 2 Timothy 4:3–4

A. Smooth Words β€” Appeal to flesh
B. Sound Doctrine β€” Appeals to truth
C. Spiritual Discernment β€” Required for survival
Pauline Insight:
Itching ears invite error.

PARTICIPATION β€” Following Error vs. Sharing Error
2 John 10–11 | Ephesians 5:11

A. Passive Followers β€” Accept falsehood
B. Active Promoters β€” Spread falsehood
C. Biblical Response β€” Reprove, not partake
Grace Truth:
Silence can be endorsement.

PUNISHMENT β€” Temporary Popularity vs. Eternal Accountability
Matthew 23:15 | Romans 2:16

A. Earthly Success β€” Crowds and praise
B. Eternal Reckoning β€” God judges doctrine
C. Solemn Reality β€” Teachers judged more strictly
Dispensational Reminder:
Judgment follows revelation.

PRESERVATION β€” Anchored in Men vs. Anchored in Christ
Colossians 2:6–7 | Ephesians 1:13

A. Anchored in Men β€” Shaken by error
B. Anchored in Christ β€” Secure in truth
C. Preserved by Grace β€” Not by leaders
Pauline Assurance:
Christ is the believer’s foundationβ€”not pastors.
