DISCERNMENT: HEARING THE HISS BEHIND THE TRUTH

β€œKnowing What’s Wrong When It Looks Right”
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

INTRODUCTION

Discernment is not merely choosing between good and bad, but between truth and truth mixed with error. Satan rarely attacks with obvious liesβ€”he whispers truth twisted just enough to deceive (Genesis 3:1).

In this Dispensation of Grace, believers must discern doctrine, not just morality. Right living flows from right believing, and right believing comes from rightly dividing the Word of Truth (2 Timothy 2:15).

Today we will learn that true spiritual discernment hears the hiss of error even when it sounds religious.

B. Spiritual Discernment Exceeds Morality
1 Corinthians 2:14 – Natural man cannot receive spiritual truth
C. Spiritual Discernment Requires Growth

Dispensational Insight:
Discernment develops through Pauline doctrine, not emotion or experience.

Dispensational Insight:
The Gospel of Grace is the only gospel that saves today.

DELUSIVE APPEARANCE

A. Philosophical Deception
Colossians 2:8 – Tradition of men
B. Religious Costume
Matthew 7:15 – Wolves in sheep’s clothing
C. Emotional Manipulation

A. Truth Liberates
John 8:32 – Truth makes free
B. Darkness Dispelled
Colossians 1:13 – Delivered from darkness
C. Deception Destroyed

B. Approved Excellence
Philippians 1:10 – Approve things that differ
C. Earnest Contending

CONCLUSION

Discernment is not arroganceβ€”it is obedience.
