CHRIST IS THE HEAD OF THE CHURCH WHICH IS HIS BODY
INTRODUCTION
In the Dispensation of Grace, God has revealed a unique organism called โthe Church, which is His Bodyโ (Eph. 1:22โ23).
This is not Israel.
This is not a denomination.
This is a mystery revealed through the Apostle Paul (Eph. 3:1โ9).
At the center of this Body is one divine Head โ the Lord Jesus Christ.
Understanding Christโs headship is crucial because every doctrine of the Church flows from this truth.
I. THE POSITION OF CHRISTโS HEADSHIP
(Ephesians 1:20โ23)
Christโs authority over the Body is grounded in His exalted position.
1. His Sovereign Elevation โ Raised Above All
(Eph. 1:20โ21)
Christ is seated far above all principalities.
2. His Supreme Exaltation โ Name Above Every Name
(Phil. 2:9โ11)
Every knee will bow to Him.
3. His Singular Executive Role โ All Things Under His Feet
(Eph. 1:22)
Christ rules over all creation.
4. His Spiritual Eminence โ Head Over All Things
(Eph. 1:22)
He alone directs the Body.
5. His Special Entrustment โ Given to the Church
(Eph. 1:22)
Christโs authority is exercised for the Churchโs benefit.
6. His Sacred Essence โ Fullness of Him
(Eph. 1:23)
The Church manifests His fullness in this age.
7. His Secret Explanation โ Mystery Revealed Only Through Paul
(Eph. 3:3โ5)
This headship was unknown to Israel and prophecy.
II. THE PEOPLE OF CHRISTโS BODY
(1 Corinthians 12:12โ27)
Believers today are placed into one Body by one Spirit.
1. Our Spiritual Baptism โ Placed into One Body
(1 Cor. 12:13)
This is Spirit baptism, not water baptism.
2. Our Unified Belonging โ Many Members, One Body
(1 Cor. 12:12)
Diversity under one Head.
3. Our Unique Bond โ No Division in the Body
(1 Cor. 12:25)
Unity flows from Christโs Headship.
4. Our Useful Building โ Every Member Necessary
(1 Cor. 12:22)
No useless Christians in the Body.
5. Our Unseen Beauty โ God Arranged the Members
(1 Cor. 12:18)
The placement is divine, not accidental.
6. Our Unifying Burden โ Suffering and Support
(1 Cor. 12:26)
We suffer and rejoice together.
7. Our Ultimate Identity โ We Are the Body of Christ
(1 Cor. 12:27; Eph. 4:12)
Not Israel, not a kingdom nation โ a heavenly Body.
III. THE PURPOSE OF CHRISTโS HEADSHIP
(Ephesians 4:11โ16)
Christ leads His Body with purposeful design.
1. For Our Equipping โ Edifying the Saints
(Eph. 4:12)
Gifted leaders help believers grow.
2. For Our Establishing โ Unity of the Faith
(Eph. 4:13)
Unity around Pauline truth.
3. For Our Enlightening โ Knowledge of the Son of God
(Eph. 4:13)
Growth comes through right doctrine.
4. For Our Enriching โ Perfect/Complete Man
(Eph. 4:13)
Maturity is Godโs goal.
5. For Our Endurance โ No Longer Tossed by False Doctrine
(Eph. 4:14)
Headship protects from deception.
6. For Our Expression โ Speaking the Truth in Love
(Eph. 4:15)
We reflect the Head in character and doctrine.
7. For Our Expansion โ Body Increasing and Edifying Itself
(Eph. 4:16)
Each joint supplies what the Body needs to grow.
CONCLUSION
Christโs headship is not symbolic โ it is the doctrinal foundation of the Church today.
He is the Head.
We are the Body.
He directs, we follow.
He leads, we respond.
He supplies, we grow.
Rejecting this truth is rejecting Godโs program for this present dispensation.
