BRICK WALL EARS vs BRASS ZIPPER LIPS

Key Text: 2 Timothy 4:2–4 (KJV)
β€œPreach the word; be instant in season, out of season…”

INTRODUCTION

In this Dispensation of Grace, God is not looking for silent saints or stubborn sinners.
He is calling for teachable ears and truth-telling mouths.

Two dangers plague the Church today:
Brick Wall Ears β€” refuse to hear truth
Brass Zipper Lips β€” refuse to speak truth

Paul warns us that both hearing and speaking are essential to sound doctrine and spiritual warfare (2 Timothy 2:15).

BLOCKED HEARING
Romans 10:17
Brick Wall Ears refuse reception of truth.

A. Deafened by Desire – Truth rejected for comfort (2 Tim 4:3)
B. Hardened by Habit – Repeated refusal builds resistance (Heb 3:13)
C. Blinded by Pride – Knowledge rejected to protect ego (Rom 1:22)
Dispensational Insight:
Faith grows only where the Pauline gospel is heard, not ignored.

BURIED WISDOM
Proverbs 1:7

A. Counsel Dismissed – Reproof rejected (Prov 15:10)
B. Correction Despised – Instruction seen as attack
C. Conviction Avoided – Light avoided to protect darkness (John 3:19)
Truth cannot transform a heart that refuses instruction.

BOUND CONSCIENCE
Ephesians 4:18–19

A. Seared Sensitivity – No response to conviction
B. Silenced Spirit – Holy Spirit resisted (1 Thess 5:19)
C. Settled Sinfulness – Darkness normalized
Brick Wall Ears always produce a hardened heart.

BITTEN TONGUE
Ezekiel 33:6
Brass Zipper Lips know truth but won’t speak it.

A. Fear of Men – Silence to preserve popularity (Prov 29:25)
B. Favor of Peace – Peace preferred over purity (Jer 6:14)
C. Flight from Conflict – Avoidance replaces obedience
Silence in truth is complicity in error.

BROKEN TESTIMONY
Romans 1:16

A. Gospel Withheld – Power ignored
B. Light Hidden – Truth buried (Matt 5:15)
C. Souls Neglected – Blood on silent hands (Acts 20:26–27)
Paul preached openly, even when rejected.

BOLDNESS LOST
Ephesians 6:19–20

A. Armor Unused – Sword sheathed
B. Watchmen Quiet – Warnings withheld
C. Warfare Forgotten – Spiritual battle ignored
Satan advances most where saints stay silent.

BELIEF CORRUPTED
Galatians 1:6–9

A. Error Tolerated – False gospels allowed
B. Doctrine Diluted – Grace mixed with works
C. Truth Abandoned – Right division rejected
Silence allows another gospel to spread.

BIBLICAL BALANCE
2 Timothy 2:15
God calls for BOTH hearing and speaking.

A. Teachable Ears – Receive truth humbly
B. Truthful Lips – Speak truth boldly
C. Tested Doctrine – Rightly divided Word
The Church must hear Paul and herald Paul.

BATTLE READY BELIEVER
2 Timothy 4:2

A. Listening Saints – Ears open to Scripture
B. Speaking Soldiers – Lips loyal to truth
C. Standing Strong – Unashamed of Christ
God uses believers who listen deeply and speak boldly.

CONCLUSION

Brick Wall Ears reject truth.
Brass Zipper Lips conceal truth.
Both lead to:
Doctrinal decay
Spiritual defeat
Gospel silence
But God desires: Ears that hear rightly divided truth
Mouths that proclaim it boldly

CALL TO ACTION

Tear down the brick wall!
Unzip the brass lips!
Hear the Word. Speak the Word. Defend the Word.
β€œLet God be true, but every man a liar.” (Romans 3:4)

FINAL THOUGHTS

Silence is not neutrality.
Resistance is not discernment.
In this Dispensation of Grace,
Truth must be heard AND heralded.
Stand fast. Speak boldly. Rightly divide.
