(1 Thessalonians 5:23 KJV โ€” โ€œAnd the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Man is a triune being โ€” created in the image of a triune God. God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; man is body, soul, and spirit. But because of sin, manโ€™s harmony was broken. Through Christโ€™s finished work revealed to Paul, God made a way for man to be restored โ€” not through religion, but through revelation in the dispensation of grace.
Sadly, many confuse the distinctions of manโ€™s nature because they fail to rightly divide the Word of Truth (2 Tim. 2:15). Let us examine manโ€™s composition from a dispensational viewpoint, so we can understand how salvation affects each part of our being.

(Genesis 2:7; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 4:12)

Godโ€™s design of man was perfect. He was made to commune, connect, and continue with God eternally.

Body Formed โ€“ โ€œThe LORD God formed man of the dust of the groundโ€ (Gen. 2:7).
โ†’ The body is the house โ€” the outer man that contacts the world.

Soul Fashioned โ€“ โ€œAnd man became a living soulโ€ (Gen. 2:7).
The soul is the seat of personality, emotions, and decisions.

Spirit Filled โ€“ โ€œBreathed into his nostrils the breath of lifeโ€ (Gen. 2:7).
โ†’ The spirit is the element of fellowship โ€” the part that communes with God.

Divine Distinction โ€“ Hebrews 4:12 declares that the Word can divide between soul and spirit โ€” they are not the same.

Functional Design โ€“ The spirit was to rule, the soul to respond, and the body to reflect Godโ€™s image.

Dispensational Truth: In the beginning, man was under innocence, walking with God freely โ€” but that fellowship broke under sin, needing redemption through grace later revealed to Paul.

(Romans 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-3; 1 Corinthians 15:22)

Sin entered through Adam, and all mankind died โ€” not physically at once, but spiritually.

Spirit Deadened โ€“ โ€œDead in trespasses and sinsโ€ (Eph. 2:1).
โ†’ The spirit no longer fellowships with God โ€” itโ€™s cut off.

Soul Dominated โ€“ โ€œFulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mindโ€ (Eph. 2:3).
The soul now follows fleshly desires rather than divine direction.

Body Defiled โ€“ โ€œDeath passed upon all menโ€ (Rom. 5:12).
The body becomes subject to corruption and mortality.

Darkened Understanding โ€“ โ€œTheir foolish heart was darkenedโ€ (Rom. 1:21).
โ†’ Without the Spiritโ€™s light, man becomes blind and self-centered.

Doctrinal Deception โ€“ False teachers in other dispensations confuse soul salvation with physical deliverance.
Only Paul reveals the spiritual restoration through the gospel of grace (Rom. 16:25).

Dispensational Truth: Under Law, men tried to reform the flesh. Under Grace, God regenerates the spirit (Titus 3:5).

(2 Corinthians 5:17; Colossians 2:10; Romans 8:10-11)

In this dispensation, salvation through Christ brings a threefold transformation โ€” spirit quickened, soul renewed, body secured for future glorification.

Spirit Regenerated โ€“ โ€œQuickened together with Christโ€ (Eph. 2:5).
โ†’ The believerโ€™s spirit is made alive by the Holy Spirit.

Soul Renewed โ€“ โ€œBe transformed by the renewing of your mindโ€ (Rom. 12:2).
The soul grows in sanctification through right division and sound doctrine.

Body Reserved โ€“ โ€œThe Spirit... shall also quicken your mortal bodiesโ€ (Rom. 8:11).
โ†’ Glorification awaits at the Rapture โ€” our blessed hope (1 Thess. 4:16-17).

Complete in Christ โ€“ โ€œYe are complete in Himโ€ (Col. 2:10).
Nothing is lacking in grace; salvation covers all three parts of man.

Correctly Divided Commission โ€“ Paulโ€™s message (2 Cor. 5:18-20) reconciles manโ€™s whole being to God โ€” not through works, but through faith in Christ alone.

Dispensational Truth: Only through Paulโ€™s gospel do we understand full positional salvation โ€” spirit saved, soul being sanctified, body awaiting glorification.

Beloved, manโ€™s body, soul, and spirit were designed to work in divine order, but sin reversed that order. Religion reforms the body, philosophy feeds the soul, but only Christ regenerates the spirit. Under the dispensation of grace, God offers total transformation โ€” from death to life, from darkness to light, from flesh to faith.

Donโ€™t just be religious โ€” be regenerated!
Study the Word rightly divided (2 Tim. 2:15).
Teach your children and brethren the difference between soul salvation and physical deliverance.
Let the Spirit lead, the Word guide, and Christ be glorified in every part of your being.

Sin fractured it all,
But grace fixed it through Christ!
