ALCOHOL: DESTROYER OF LIVES

(Living Soberly in the Dispensation of Grace)
Titus 2:11–12
β€œFor the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.”

INTRODUCTION

Alcohol is often minimized, normalized, and excusedβ€”but Scripture does not ignore its destructive power. While we are not under the Law, grace teaches us how to live wisely.

The issue is not salvation by works, but destruction of testimony, family, body, and walk.
Grace saves us β€” but grace also trains us.

DECEPTION of ALCOHOL
Proverbs 20:1

A. False Promise – It promises pleasure but delivers pain
B. Familiar Poison – Accepted by culture, dangerous by nature
C. Foolish Power – Makes wise men act unwisely
Dispensational Insight:
Grace reveals truth plainlyβ€”alcohol deceives the mind, not the Spirit-led believer (Romans 8:6).

DESTRUCTION of RELATIONSHIPS
Proverbs 23:29–30

A. Broken Homes – Alcohol fractures families
B. Bitter Words – Drunkenness fuels strife
C. Betrayed Trust – Repeated wounds destroy bonds
Pauline Truth:
Grace produces peace, not chaos (Romans 14:19).

DAMAGE to the BODY
1 Corinthians 6:19–20

A. Physical Harm – Liver, brain, and health decline
B. Mental Impairment – Judgment weakened
C. Spiritual Neglect – Flesh dominates the mind
Grace Teaching:
Your body belongs to Christ, not addiction (Romans 12:1).

DOMINION of the FLESH
Romans 6:12

A. Loss of Control – Alcohol masters the man
B. Repeated Bondage – Sin strengthens habits
C. Fleshly Rule – Spirit quenched
Dispensational Insight:
We are dead to sin, not enslaved to it (Romans 6:14).

DEFILEMENT of TESTIMONY
Ephesians 5:18

A. Public Shame – Weakens witness
B. Private Guilt – Convicts conscience
C. Spiritual Grief – Grieves the Holy Spirit
Paul’s Command:
Be filled with the Spiritβ€”not substances.

DISTRACTION from PURPOSE
Philippians 3:13–14

A. Wasted Time – Missed calling
B. Delayed Growth – Stunted maturity
C. Diverted Focus – Earthly cravings replace eternal aims
Grace Perspective:
We are called upward, not downward.

DEGRADATION of CHARACTER

Galatians 5:21

A. Loss of Discipline – Self-control erodes
B. Moral Weakness – Boundaries collapse
C. Fleshly Fruit – Contrary to the Spirit
Grace Produces Fruit, not flesh (Galatians 5:22–23).

DELIVERANCE through CHRIST
Romans 6:6

A. Sin Broken – Old man crucified
B. Strength Supplied – Christ lives in us
C. Freedom Given – Not slaves anymore
Dispensational Hope:
Victory flows from identity, not effort.

DISCIPLINE by GRACE
Titus 2:11–12

A. Grace Teaches – Not law, but love
B. Grace Trains – Sober, godly living
C. Grace Transforms – From inside out
Pauline Conclusion:
Grace does not excuse sinβ€”it educates saints.

CONCLUSION

Alcohol destroys livesβ€”not because God hates peopleβ€”but because sin always damages what it touches.
Grace saves freely, but grace also instructs wisely.
You are not called to addiction.
You are called to freedom, purpose, and power in Christ.

CALL TO ACTION

If alcohol has controlβ€”confess it
If Christ has saved youβ€”trust Him fully
Walk by the Spiritβ€”not the flesh
β€œStand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free…”
Galatians 5:1

FINAL THOUGHTS

Grace does not ask, β€œHow much can I get away with?”
Grace asks, β€œHow can I glorify Christ?”
Freedom is not found in the bottle.
Freedom is found IN CHRIST.
