WHO HOLDS YOUR LOYALTY?

Pastor-Centered Allegiance vs Christ-Centered Devotion
Key Text: 1 Corinthians 1:12–13; Colossians 2:6–8
Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth – 2 Timothy 2:15

INTRODUCTION

In every generation, believers face a subtle dangerβ€”not open heresy, but misplaced loyalty.
God never commanded believers to be loyal to personalities, pulpits, or platforms. He commanded us to be loyal to Christ and His Wordβ€”especially as revealed to us through the Apostle Paul in this Dispensation of Grace (Ephesians 3:2).

This message is not anti-pastorβ€”it is anti-idolatry.
Pastors are helpers, not masters of faith (2 Corinthians 1:24).

Today we will examine NINE PAULINE CONTRASTS that reveal where true loyalty belongs.

PERSONALITY vs PERSON
1 Corinthians 1:12–13

A. Man-Centered Following – β€œI am of Paul… Apollos…”
B. Christ-Centered Faith – Christ alone crucified for us
C. Divided Allegiance – vs Unified devotion to Christ
Dispensational Insight:
Paul rebuked personality worshipβ€”even of himself.

POSITION vs PREEMINENCE
Colossians 1:18

A. Pastor Elevated – Untouchable authority
B. Christ Exalted – Head of the Body
C. Pulpit Replaces Christ – vs Christ ruling the Church
No pastor occupies Christ’s throne.

PASSIVITY vs PROOF
1 Thessalonians 5:21

A. Blind Acceptance – β€œPastor said it”
B. Biblical Examination – β€œIs it written?”
C. Discouraged Questions – vs Commanded discernment
Grace believers are commanded to prove all things.

PROGRAM vs PRINCIPLE
Colossians 2:8

A. Church System Loyalty – Traditions preserved
B. Scriptural Principle Loyalty – Truth preserved
C. Man-Made Structures – vs God-revealed doctrine
Programs changeβ€”truth does not.

PRIDE vs POSITION IN CHRIST
Ephesians 1:3

A. Group Identity – β€œUs vs them”
B. Body Identity – One Body in Christ
C. Sectarian Superiority – vs Heavenly standing
Our identity is in Christ, not a church label.

POWER vs PERSUASION
2 Corinthians 1:24

A. Control Through Fear – β€œDon’t question”
B. Ministry Through Truth – β€œStand by faith”
C. Spiritual Manipulation – vs Grace motivation
Pastors are helpers of joyβ€”not rulers of conscience.

PAYMENT vs PROVISION
2 Corinthians 9:7

A. Forced Giving – Loyalty tied to money
B. Free Giving – As God purposes in the heart
C. Financial Control – vs Grace generosity
Giving under grace is voluntary, not coerced.

PARTISANSHIP vs PEACE
Ephesians 4:3–4

A. Church Division – β€œOur group only”
B. Doctrinal Unity – One Body, One Spirit
C. Loyalty Creates Walls – vs Truth creates unity
Unity comes from sound doctrine, not blind loyalty.

FOLLOWERS vs FELLOWSHIP WITH CHRIST
Colossians 2:6–7

A. Following a Man – Borrowed conviction
B. Walking in Christ – Personal relationship
C. Second-Hand Faith – vs Rooted, grounded faith
Christ calls believers to walk in Him, not behind men.

CONCLUSION

Pastors may guide.
Teachers may help.
But only Christ died for you.
Loyalty to a pastor without loyalty to truth becomes spiritual bondage.
Loyalty to Christ produces liberty, assurance, and growth.

CALL TO ACTION

Search the Scriptures daily (Acts 17:11)
Rightly divide God’s Word (2 Timothy 2:15)
Follow Christ above all (Colossians 2:6)
Stand fast in grace (Galatians 5:1)
Choose Christ over charisma.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Blind loyalty creates followers.
Grace truth creates faithful believers.
A pastor should point you to Christβ€”
not replace Him.
