CHURCH GOERS vs TRUTH SEEKERS

Rightly Dividing Religion from Revelation

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

INTRODUCTION

Not everyone who goes to church is seeking truth.
Not everyone who holds a Bible understands doctrine.

In this Dispensation of Grace, God is not calling people to religious routine, but to doctrinal understanding revealed through the Apostle Paul (Ephesians 3:1–2).

Today we will contrast CHURCH GOERS and TRUTH SEEKERS through 9 DISPENSATIONAL DIFFERENCES that expose tradition and exalt truth.

CROWD-FOLLOWING vs CHRIST-FOLLOWING
Matthew 7:13–14; 1 Corinthians 11:1 (KJV)

A. Popularity Over Proof – Church goers follow what’s common
B. Multitude Over Message – Truth seekers follow Christ through Paul
C. Noise Over Knowledge – Truth isn’t found in crowds
Dispensational Insight:
Paul says, “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.”

RELIGION-LOVING vs REVELATION-LEARNING
Colossians 2:8; Galatians 1:11–12 (KJV)

A. Rituals Over Reality – Religion replaces revelation
B. Tradition Over Truth – Customs override Scripture
C. Inherited Beliefs – Truth seekers learn directly from God’s Word
Truth:
Grace doctrine was revealed, not inherited.

PASTOR-TRUSTING vs SCRIPTURE-TESTING
Acts 17:11; Galatians 1:8 (KJV)

A. Blind Loyalty – Church goers never question teaching
B. Berean Examination – Truth seekers search the Scriptures
C. Authority Tested – Even apostles are tested by Scripture
Pauline Pattern:
Truth seekers test teaching, not personalities.

TRADITION-DEFENDING vs TRUTH-DIVIDING

A. Holding Old Systems – Law mixed with grace
B. Ignoring Dispensations – No divisions recognized
C. Rightly Dividing – Truth seekers separate prophecy from mystery
Dispensational Key:
Failure to divide produces confusion.

FEELING-DRIVEN vs FAITH-FOUNDED

A. Emotional Worship – Feelings replace faith
B. Experience Over Evidence – Truth becomes subjective
C. Faith Comes by Hearing – Truth seekers trust God’s Word
Pauline Doctrine:
Faith rests on doctrine, not emotion.

COMFORT-SEEKING vs CORRECTION-SUBMITTING

A. Ear-Tickling Messages – Church goers want comfort
B. Avoiding Rebuke – Correction rejected
C. Doctrinal Training – Truth seekers submit to Scripture
Grace Truth:
Grace teaches—it doesn’t entertain.

DENOMINATION-DEFENDING vs DOCTRINE-DEFENDING
1 Corinthians 1:12–13; Titus 1:9 (KJV)

A. Labels Over Lordship – “I am of…”
B. Systems Over Scripture – Denominations defended
C. Sound Doctrine – Truth seekers hold fast the Word
Emphasis:
Paul defended doctrine, not movements.

SERVICE-ATTENDING vs STUDY-APPLYING
Hebrews 5:12; Colossians 1:25 (KJV)

A. Sermons Without Study – Hearing without growth
B. Milk Over Meat – Never maturing
C. Word Fully Preached – Truth seekers study Pauline revelation
Dispensation of Grace:
Paul completed the Word of God for the Body of Christ.

MAN-PLEASING vs GOD-APPROVED
Galatians 1:10; Romans 12:2 (KJV)

A. Fear of Rejection – Church goers seek approval
B. Cultural Christianity – Truth compromised
C. Renewed Mind – Truth seekers seek God’s approval
Pauline Goal:
Approved workmen, not popular Christians.

CONCLUSION

Church attendance does not equal truth.
Emotion does not equal doctrine.
Tradition does not equal revelation.
Truth seekers are rare because truth demands study, division, and submission to God’s Word rightly divided.

CALL TO ACTION

STOP following the crowd
START rightly dividing Scripture
COMMIT to Pauline doctrine
STUDY Romans–Philemon
Be a TRUTH SEEKER — not just a CHURCH GOER.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Truth will cost you friends.
Truth will offend religion.
Truth will expose tradition.
But truth will set you free — in this Dispensation of Grace.
“Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32)
