CHURCH GOERS vs TRUTH SEEKERS
Rightly Dividing Religion from Revelation
Key Text: 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
βStudy to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.β
INTRODUCTION
Not everyone who goes to church is seeking truth.
Not everyone who holds a Bible understands doctrine.
In this Dispensation of Grace, God is not calling people to religious routine, but to doctrinal understanding revealed through the Apostle Paul (Ephesians 3:1β2).
Today we will contrast CHURCH GOERS and TRUTH SEEKERS through 9 DISPENSATIONAL DIFFERENCES that expose tradition and exalt truth.
CROWD-FOLLOWING vs CHRIST-FOLLOWING
Matthew 7:13β14; 1 Corinthians 11:1 (KJV)
A. Popularity Over Proof β Church goers follow whatβs common
B. Multitude Over Message β Truth seekers follow Christ through Paul
C. Noise Over Knowledge β Truth isnβt found in crowds
Dispensational Insight:
Paul says, βBe ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.β
RELIGION-LOVING vs REVELATION-LEARNING
Colossians 2:8; Galatians 1:11β12 (KJV)
A. Rituals Over Reality β Religion replaces revelation
B. Tradition Over Truth β Customs override Scripture
C. Inherited Beliefs β Truth seekers learn directly from Godβs Word
Truth:
Grace doctrine was revealed, not inherited.
PASTOR-TRUSTING vs SCRIPTURE-TESTING
Acts 17:11; Galatians 1:8 (KJV)
A. Blind Loyalty β Church goers never question teaching
B. Berean Examination β Truth seekers search the Scriptures
C. Authority Tested β Even apostles are tested by Scripture
Pauline Pattern:
Truth seekers test teaching, not personalities.
TRADITION-DEFENDING vs TRUTH-DIVIDING
Mark 7:13; 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
A. Holding Old Systems β Law mixed with grace
B. Ignoring Dispensations β No divisions recognized
C. Rightly Dividing β Truth seekers separate prophecy from mystery
Dispensational Key:
Failure to divide produces confusion.
FEELING-DRIVEN vs FAITH-FOUNDED
Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 10:17 (KJV)
A. Emotional Worship β Feelings replace faith
B. Experience Over Evidence β Truth becomes subjective
C. Faith Comes by Hearing β Truth seekers trust Godβs Word
Pauline Doctrine:
Faith rests on doctrine, not emotion.
COMFORT-SEEKING vs CORRECTION-SUBMITTING
2 Timothy 4:3β4; 2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV)
A. Ear-Tickling Messages β Church goers want comfort
B. Avoiding Rebuke β Correction rejected
C. Doctrinal Training β Truth seekers submit to Scripture
Grace Truth:
Grace teachesβit doesnβt entertain.
DENOMINATION-DEFENDING vs DOCTRINE-DEFENDING
1 Corinthians 1:12β13; Titus 1:9 (KJV)
A. Labels Over Lordship β βI am ofβ¦β
B. Systems Over Scripture β Denominations defended
C. Sound Doctrine β Truth seekers hold fast the Word
Emphasis:
Paul defended doctrine, not movements.
SERVICE-ATTENDING vs STUDY-APPLYING
Hebrews 5:12; Colossians 1:25 (KJV)
A. Sermons Without Study β Hearing without growth
B. Milk Over Meat β Never maturing
C. Word Fully Preached β Truth seekers study Pauline revelation
Dispensation of Grace:
Paul completed the Word of God for the Body of Christ.
MAN-PLEASING vs GOD-APPROVED
Galatians 1:10; Romans 12:2 (KJV)
A. Fear of Rejection β Church goers seek approval
B. Cultural Christianity β Truth compromised
C. Renewed Mind β Truth seekers seek Godβs approval
Pauline Goal:
Approved workmen, not popular Christians.
CONCLUSION
Church attendance does not equal truth.
Emotion does not equal doctrine.
Tradition does not equal revelation.
Truth seekers are rare because truth demands study, division, and submission to Godβs Word rightly divided.
