CURSED FOR ADDING WORKS TO CHRIST’S FINISHED WORK

(Why Grace Alone Must Remain Untouched)
Galatians 1:6–9; Galatians 2:21; Ephesians 2:8–9

INTRODUCTION

The greatest attack on the gospel is not outright denial of Christβ€”but adding something to what He already finished.

Religion loves to assist God, improve grace, and decorate salvation with human effort. But Scriptureβ€”rightly dividedβ€”declares that any addition to grace is a corruption of grace.

In this message, we will expose why adding works is cursed, why Christ’s work is complete, and why grace alone glorifies God.

PRONOUNCED CURSE
Galatians 1:8–9

A. Declared Condemnation – God Himself pronounces a curse
B. Double Warning – Repeated for absolute certainty
C. Doctrinal Line – Any β€œother gospel” is damnable
Dispensational Insight:
God does not tolerate mixtureβ€”grace plus works equals no gospel at all.

PERFECTED CROSS
John 19:30; Hebrews 10:14

A. Finished Payment – Sin’s debt fully paid
B. Final Sacrifice – No repeat, no supplement
C. Forever Complete – One offering, eternal effect
Christ did not start salvationβ€”He completed it.

POISONED ADDITIONS
Galatians 5:2–4

A. Corrupted Christ – Grace diluted
B. Cancelled Confidence – Falling from grace
C. Crushed Clarity – Faith replaced with effort
Add works and you don’t enhance graceβ€”you erase it.

POWERLESS WORKS
Romans 3:20; Titus 3:5

A. No Justification – Works cannot save
B. No Cleansing – Works cannot remove sin
C. No Credit – Works earn nothing with God
Works reveal sin; they never remove it.

PAULINE GOSPEL
1 Corinthians 15:1–4

A. Death for Sins – Substitution
B. Burial Proved – Reality of death
C. Resurrection Power – Victory accomplished
This gospel was revealed to Paul for the Body of Christ.

PURE GRACE
Ephesians 2:8–9; Romans 11:6

A. God’s Gift – Not earned
B. Grounded Faith – Trust, not toil
C. Glory to God – No human boasting
Grace works only when works are removed.

PROUD RELIGION
Matthew 7:22–23; Philippians 3:4–9

A. Self-Righteous Show – β€œLord, Lord” religion
B. Stacked Credentials – Fleshly confidence
C. Shocking Rejection – β€œI never knew you”
Religious works impress menβ€”but repel God.

PROTECTED BELIEVER
Romans 8:1; Colossians 2:10

A. No Condemnation – Judgment removed
B. New Position – In Christ
C. Nothing Missing – Complete in Him
Believers rest, not labor, for acceptance.

PROPER RESPONSE
Romans 4:5; Galatians 2:16

A. Believe Only – Faith alone
B. Boast Never – Christ alone
C. Build After – Works follow salvation, not cause it
Works are for service, not salvation.

CONCLUSION

The cross does not need help.
Grace does not need polishing.
Salvation does not need improvement.
Jesus finished the work.
Adding works insults the cross.
Grace alone saves.

CALL TO ACTION

STOP trusting effort
START trusting Christ alone
STAND on the rightly divided gospel

β€œI do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”
Galatians 2:21 (KJV)

FINAL THOUGHTS

Grace is not weakβ€”it is complete.
Faith is not lazyβ€”it is obedient trust.
The gospel is not complexβ€”it is Christ finished.
