THE HEART OF THE PROBLEM IS THE PROBLEM OF THE HEART

Mark 7:20–23 (principle) | Romans 3:10–23 (doctrine)

Gospel Foundation: 1 Corinthians 15:1–4 (KJV)

INTRODUCTION

Many try to fix sin by changing behavior, environment, or religion. But Scripture reveals the real issue is not outside of manβ€”it is inside of man. Jesus taught that sin flows from the heart, and Paul explains that only the Gospel of Grace can deal with that heart problem in this present Dispensation.

Today we will see 9 HEART TRUTHS that expose man’s condition and magnify God’s grace.

POLLUTED HEART
Jeremiah 17:9 | Romans 3:23

A. Deceitful by Nature – The heart cannot be trusted
B. Defiled by Sin – Corrupted since Adam (Romans 5:12)
C. Desperate for Redemption – No self-repair possible
Dispensational Insight:
Law reveals the sickness; grace provides the cure.

PROUD HEART
Proverbs 16:18 | Romans 1:21–22

A. Exalts Self – Pride resists God
B. Rejects Truth – Will not submit to righteousness
C. Refuses Grace – Trusts works instead of Christ
Pride is the root of rejecting the Gospel of Grace.

PERVERSE HEART
Mark 7:21–22 | Galatians 5:19–21

A. Lustful Desires – Adulteries, fornications
B. Lawless Thoughts – Wicked imaginations
C. Licentious Living – Lasciviousness without restraint
Sin flows outward because corruption lives inward.

PROFANE HEART
Matthew 12:34 | Colossians 3:8

A. Blasphemy – Speaking against God
B. Deceit – Lies and falsehood
C. Defilement – Mouth reveals the heart
Grace teaches us to speak truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).

POISONED HEART
James 3:6 | Romans 3:13

A. Evil Thoughts – Imaginations of wickedness
B. Murderous Attitudes – Hatred equals murder (1 John 3:15)
C. Malicious Intent – Sin begins long before action
God judges the heart, not just the hands.

POWERLESS HEART
Romans 7:18 | Romans 8:7

A. Cannot Please God – Flesh is hostile
B. Cannot Change Itself – Religion fails
C. Cannot Keep the Law – Condemnation remains
This is why salvation is by grace alone.

PURCHASED HEART
Romans 6:23 | 1 Corinthians 6:19–20

A. Paid by Blood – Christ bore our sins
B. Purchased Fully – Once for all (Hebrews 10:10)
C. Provided Freely – Gift, not wages
The Gospel solves the heart problem.

PURIFIED HEART
Titus 3:5 | 2 Corinthians 5:17

A. Washed by Grace – Not by works
B. Regenerated Spiritually – New creation
C. Reconciled to God – Peace restored
The moment we believe, the heart is changed.

PURPOSED HEART
Romans 12:1–2 | Ephesians 2:10

A. Dedicated to God – Living sacrifice
B. Directed by the Spirit – Not the flesh
C. Designed for Good Works – After salvation
Grace saves us unto good works, not by good works.

CONCLUSION

The heart of man is sinful, stubborn, and stainedβ€”but God did not abandon us.
He sent His Son to die, be buried, and rise again to save sinners and give them a new heart.
1 Corinthians 15:1–4 (KJV)
Christ died for our sins… was buried… and rose again the third day.

CALL TO ACTION
