FROM PROMISE TO PAYMENT

(The Sacrifice Initiated… The Sacrifice Accomplished)

1 Timothy 2:6; Hebrews 10:10; 1 Corinthians 15:1–4

INTRODUCTION

From Genesis to the Cross, God revealed a progressive unfolding of redemption.
The Old Testament sacrifices initiated the picture; the Cross of Christ completed the payment.
Rightly dividing the Word (2 Timothy 2:15), we see that Christ’s sacrifice is final, sufficient, and finished, now proclaimed through Paul’s Gospel of Grace to all nations.

Today, we will trace 9 dispensational truths that move us from shadow to substance, from altar to accomplishment.

PROPOSED SACRIFICE
Genesis 22:8; Revelation 13:8; Ephesians 1:4

A. Foreseen by God – Redemption was planned before time
B. Foreshadowed in Isaac – A son offered, yet spared
C. Foreshadowing Christ – The Lamb already in God’s mind
Dispensational Insight: God revealed redemption progressively, not all at once.

PICTORIAL SACRIFICE
Genesis 22:13; Leviticus 17:11; Hebrews 9:22

A. Ram in the thicket – Substitute provided
B. Blood emphasized – Life required for atonement
C. Types repeated – Shadows awaiting fulfillment
Dispensational Insight: Animal sacrifices could never remove sin, only remind of it.

PREPARATORY SACRIFICE
Hebrews 10:1–4; Galatians 3:24; Romans 3:20

A. Law exposes sin – No justification by works
B. Sacrifices instruct Israel – Teaching holiness
C. Shadows point forward – Awaiting Christ
Dispensational Insight: The Law prepared Israel, not the Body of Christ.

PROPHESIED SACRIFICE
Isaiah 53:5–7; Psalm 22:16; Daniel 9:26

A. Suffering Servant foretold
B. Silent Substitute pictured
C. Sin-Bearer revealed
Dispensational Insight: Prophecy foretold Christ’s death, but not the mystery Gospel.

PERSONAL SACRIFICE
Matthew 27:29; John 1:29; John 10:17–18

A. Crown of thorns – Curse placed on Christ
B. Willing submission – No man took His life
C. Perfect Lamb – Sinless sacrifice
Dispensational Insight: Israel rejected Him, yet God used it to bring grace.

PURCHASING SACRIFICE
1 Timothy 2:6; 1 Peter 1:18–19; Romans 3:24

A. Ransom for all – Unlimited provision
B. Price fully paid – Redemption accomplished
C. Grace freely offered – No works added
Dispensational Insight: Christ died for all, but only believers receive salvation.

PERFECTED SACRIFICE
Hebrews 10:10–14; John 19:30; Colossians 2:14

A. Once for all – Never repeated
B. Finished work – Nothing left to add
C. Forever effective – Complete forgiveness
Dispensational Insight: No altar, no priesthood, no sacrifice todayβ€”Christ finished it.

PROCLAIMED SACRIFICE
1 Corinthians 15:1–4; Romans 16:25; Ephesians 3:1–9

A. Gospel defined – Death, burial, resurrection
B. Mystery revealed – Given to Paul
C. Grace dispensed – For Jew and Gentile alike
Dispensational Insight: This Gospel was not preached in the Gospels, but revealed to Paul.

PERSONAL RESPONSE
Acts 16:31; Romans 5:1; Ephesians 2:8–9

A. Believe, not behave – Faith alone saves
B. Receive eternal life – Present possession
C. Rest in grace – No fear of condemnation
Dispensational Insight: Salvation today is by grace alone through faith alone.

CONCLUSION

The sacrifice was initiated in Genesis,
illustrated through the Law,
and completed at Calvary.
Christ did not come to continue sacrificesβ€”
He came to end them.
β€œWho gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” (1 Timothy 2:6)
