FEEDING GOD’S PEOPLE, NOT FLATTERING THEM

INTRODUCTION

In this Dispensation of Grace, God has not called preachers to be motivational speakers, crowd-pleasers, or comfort merchants. He has called them to be faithful stewards of revealed truthβ€”especially the truth committed to the Apostle Paul for the Church today (Rom–Philemon). Truth may sting, but sugarcoated lies starve souls.

2 Timothy 4:2 β€” β€œPreach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort…”

β‘  The COMMISSION of the Preacher
God commands feeding, not entertaining

Called by God – not crowds (Gal. 1:15)
Commissioned to teach – not tickle ears (1 Cor. 4:1)
Charged with truth – not trends (2 Tim. 2:2)
1 Corinthians 4:1 β€” β€œStewards of the mysteries of God”
Dispensational note: Those β€œmysteries” were revealed to Paul, not during Christ’s earthly ministry.

β‘‘ The CONTENT of Proper Feeding
Truth, not tradition

Scriptural truth rightly divided (2 Tim. 2:15)
Sound doctrine for today (1 Tim. 1:10)
Specific revelation for the Body of Christ (Eph. 3:2)
Ephesians 3:2 β€” β€œThe dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward”

β‘’ The COURAGE to Speak Plainly
Truth requires boldness

Bold correction when needed (Titus 1:13)
Brave rebuke of error (Gal. 2:11)
Biblical bluntness over soft speech (Prov. 27:5)
Titus 1:13 β€” β€œRebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith”

β‘£ The DANGER of Sugarcoating
Sweet lies produce spiritual sickness

Ear-pleasing sermons dull discernment (2 Tim. 4:3)
Prosperity preaching distorts grace (1 Tim. 6:5)
Emotion-driven messages replace doctrine (Col. 2:8)
2 Timothy 4:3 β€” β€œHaving itching ears…”

β‘€ The CARE for God’s People
Love feeds truthfully

Shepherds feed sheep (John 21:15)
Parents don’t poison children with lies (Heb. 5:12–14)
Mature believers need meat (1 Cor. 3:2)
Hebrews 5:14 β€” β€œStrong meat belongeth to them that are of full age”
Dispensation of Grace requires doctrinal maturity, not perpetual milk.

β‘₯ The CONTEXT of Right Division
Truth must be placed correctly

Israel vs. the Church (Rom. 11:25)
Law vs. Grace (Rom. 6:14)
Kingdom gospel vs. Gospel of Grace (1 Cor. 15:1–4)
2 Timothy 2:15 β€” β€œRightly dividing the word of truth”

⑦ The CONSEQUENCES of Compromise
Sugarcoating destroys ministries

False assurance damns souls (Gal. 1:8)
Corrupt doctrine spreads fast (2 Tim. 2:17)
Man-pleasing preaching dishonors God (Gal. 1:10)
Galatians 1:10 β€” β€œIf I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ”

⑧ The CALL to Faithful Stewardship
Preachers must answer to Christ

Judgment Seat of Christ is coming (2 Cor. 5:10)
Faithfulness required (1 Cor. 4:2)
Rewards or loss (1 Cor. 3:13–15)
1 Corinthians 4:2 β€” β€œIt is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful”

⑨The CROWN of Faithful Feeding

God honors truth-preachers

Souls established in grace (Rom. 16:25)
Saints strengthened (Eph. 4:14)
Servants rewarded (2 Tim. 4:8)
2 Timothy 4:8 β€” β€œA crown of righteousness…”

CONCLUSION

The Church today does not need less truthβ€”it needs more rightly divided truth.
It does not need sugar, it needs Scripture.
It does not need comfort at the cost of clarity, but clarity that leads to true comfort.
A preacher who withholds truth is not lovingβ€”he is neglecting.
