JESUS THE MESSIAH PROVEN WITH ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY BY DANIEL 9

Isaiah 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

1. Paul Wanted Believers To Know Their Identity and What God Is doing Today

Paul reminds the Thessalonians that they already understood the prophetic timeline and the Day of the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 5:1–4 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

They β€œknow perfectly” because Paul had already opened the Scriptures and laid out the prophetic program – especially Daniel 9.

Later, confusion came when false teachers and a forged letter told them the β€œday of Christ” had already arrived.

2 Thessalonians 2:1–3 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.

Paul calms them by taking them back to the prophetic Scriptures, the same ones he used when he first came to Thessalonica.

2. Paul’s Method in Thessalonica: Open Bible Proof That Jesus Is the Christ And that He must Have suffered

Acts 17:1–3 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:

And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

Paul did two things at once:

1. He Proved from the prophets that Jesus is the Christ β€œChrist must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead.” Isaiah 53 would have secured this fact of Christ having to suffer but only Daniel 9 could demonstrate with absolute statistical certainty that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ fulfilling those prophecies with mathematical precision based on the timeline of Daniel 9.

2. Explain how prophecy is on hold and that the day of the Lord was yet future using the gap between the 69th and 70th week as detailed in Daniel 9

The most mathematically precise, scientific proof in the Word of God that Jesus is the Christ comes from Daniel 9:24-27

3. Daniel 9 – The Mathematical Prophecy of Messiah

The Setting: Daniel in Babylon, Reading Moses & Jeremiah

Daniel realizes Israel’s 70-year captivity is almost over and confesses Israel’s sins, exactly as Moses had foretold.

Daniel 9:13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.

Daniel is doing what Leviticus 26 said Israel must do in exile- confess, repent, and seek God’s face.
Then God sends Gabriel with a precise revelation.

Daniel 9:22–23 And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.
At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.

The Scope: 70 Weeks for Israel & Jerusalem – God’s Prophetic clock

Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city,
to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity,
and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

β€œThy people” = Israel
β€œThy holy city” = Jerusalem

This prophecy is not about the Body of Christ. It’s Israel’s prophetic timetable.

The 69 Weeks – From Decree to the Arrival of Messiah

Gabriel gives an exact countdown from a real decree to a real day.

Daniel 9:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

7 weeks + 62 weeks = 69 β€œweeks” of years
1 prophetic β€œweek” = 7 years
A prophetic year = 360 days

We know this from the way Revelation describes the final week:

Revelation 11:2–3 …they shall tread under foot the holy city forty and two months.
And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

42 months = 1260 days β†’ 42 Γ— 30 = 1260 β†’ 30-day prophetic month.
So 7 years Γ— 360 days = 2,520 days per prophetic week.
Thus 69 weeks = 69 Γ— 7 Γ— 360 = 173,880 days (483 prophetic years)

God literally gives a prophetic stopwatch:
From the decree to rebuild Jerusalem (Nehemiah 2) unto β€œMessiah the Prince.”

Based on ancient sources (Ptolemy’s Canon) the lunar calendar (Psalms 104:19 He appointed the moon for seasons) and the decree date in Nehemiah, Robert Anderson was able to pinpoint this exact day based of the starting point of the decree to rebuild Jerusalem being March 14th 445BC from Scripture and Christs triumphal entry described in Luke 19 & Matthew 21 as April 6, AD 32 (10 Nisan)

Daniel 9:25 From the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem
unto Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks… 69 weeks

Nehemiah 2:1, 5 And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king… …send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers’ sepulchres, that I may build it.”

How he did it Scripturally:

The decree – Nehemiah 2 (Artaxerxes’ command to rebuild Jerusalem) as the starting point of Daniel 9:25.
Date the regnal year – Artaxerxes’ 20th year = 445 BC based on classical chronology – history.
Anchor Nisan to astronomy – Use lunar tables to find when 1 Nisan fell in 445 BC.
Identify 1 Nisan – Those tables gave 1 Nisan = March 14, 445 BC (Julian).
Use that as day zero for the 69 weeks (173,880 days) leading to Messiah’s presentation.

THE TRIUMPHAL ENTRY ON THE EXACT DAY

Before the predicted day arrived, The Lord Jesus Christ refused every attempt to make Him king.

John 6:15 They would come and take Him by force to make Him a king…
**He departed… alone.

Why?
Because His hour had not yet come – He knew His exact day and hour.

But on a single, unique day, the day Daniel 9 prophecy reached its exact terminus, The Lord Jesus Christ orchestrated His own presentation as Israel’s King.

✦ The Donkey

It is no coincidence that God marked the donkey – with a cross upon its back, for the very role it would play in prophetic fulfilment. Creation itself bears His fingerprints. Every detail testifies that He is the Author of history and the Designer of all things.

He sends for a very specific young colt.
Luke 19:30–31 A colt tied, whereon never man sat…
say, The Lord hath need of him.

Why this level of precision?

Because He is fulfilling:

Zechariah 9:9 Behold, thy King cometh…
lowly, riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

This was prophecy – and He was fulfilling it to the letter.

As He descends the Mount of Olives:
Luke 19:38 Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord!

Only one person in human history has ever fulfilled this prophecy precisely in this manner:
The Lord Jesus Christ.

Then Jesus says something staggering:
Luke 19:42 If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day,
the things which belong unto thy peace…
THIS THY DAY.

The exact day Daniel foretold – 173,880 days after the decree.
The Lord Jesus Christ held Israel accountable for not recognizing it.

3.4 After the 69th Week – The Crucifixion & Destruction of Jerusalem

Daniel 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself:
and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary;
and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

Key points Paul could emphasize:
β€œAfter” the 69th week Messiah is cut off β†’ the Cross
β€œCut off, but not for Himself” β†’ He dies as a substitute, not for His own sin.
Romans 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Then β€œthe people of the prince” (Rome) destroy Jerusalem and the temple (70 AD and the subsequent sieges), just as Jesus foretold.

The Still-Future 70th Week

Daniel 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week:
and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease,
and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation,
and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

This is the future 7-year period Paul calls the Day of the Lord and links with:

2 Thessalonians 2:3–4 …that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped;
so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Daniel 9 not only identifies Messiah, it maps the Antichrist’s future career. Isaiah confirms the antichrist will be an Assyrian – An Assyrian did not take Jerusalem in 70AD nor was there any covenant made

Isaiah 10:24 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt

Isaiah 14:25 That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders

4. How Daniel 9 Pinpoints The Lord Jesus Christ as Messiah

Only One Day in Jesus’ Life Fits β€œMessiah the Prince”

All four Gospels show that Jesus refused to let Israel make Him king – until a specific, appointed day.

John 6:15 When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.

John 7:30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.

Earlier, at Cana:
John 2:4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

Over and over: The Lord says β€œMy hour is not yet come.”

Why? Because the exact day was already marked by Daniel 9:25.

The Lord Jesus Christ came to fulfill what was spoken of Him – perfectly and precisely

Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil

The Triumphal Entry – Fulfillment to the Day

On one specific day, The Lord Jesus Christ deliberately arranges to present Himself as Israel’s King.

Luke 19:28–30, 35–38 And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.
And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.
…
And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.
And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.
And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives,
the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;
Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

Matthew explains that this exact scene fulfills Zechariah 9:9:

Matthew 21:4–5 All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,
Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem:
behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
Only one Man in history ever rode into Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives on a colt, in open claim to be Israel’s King, in perfect fulfillment of this prophecy – The Lord Jesus Christ.

β€œThis Thy Day” – Held Accountable to Daniel’s Calendar

As He approaches Jerusalem, Jesus weeps over the city:

Luke 19:41–44 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,
Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another;
because thou knewest NOT the time of thy visitation.

β€œThis thy day” – a specific, knowable day
β€œThe time of thy visitation” – the exact fulfillment of Daniel 9:25

Israel was expected to do the math from the decree to rebuild Jerusalem to this very day.
Because they could have known, they are judged for not knowing.

That is why Paul could stand in the synagogue and β€œopen and allege” that:
Acts 17:3 …Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

Daniel 9 gave him prophetic DNA and fingerprint evidence:
Exact timeline to Messiah’s presentation
Prediction of Messiah’s death β€œnot for Himself”
Prediction of Jerusalem’s destruction afterward
All fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth and in no one else.

5. Daniel 9 Also Explains Why We’re Not in the Prophetic Program Now

After Messiah is cut off and Jerusalem destroyed (Dan. 9:26), the 70th week still awaits future fulfillment (Dan. 9:27).

The gap between the 69th and 70th week is where the mystery program fits.

Romans 16:25–26 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel,
and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery,
which was kept secret since the world began,
But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God,
made known to all nations for the obedience of faith.

Acts 3:21 (Peter about Israel’s kingdom) Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.

Israel’s kingdom program = β€œspoken… since the world began”
The Body of Christ = β€œkept secret since the world began”

Romans 11:25–29 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written,
There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.
For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

Conclusion: Israel’s prophetic timetable (Daniel 9, the 70th week, Antichrist, Day of the Lord) is paused, not cancelled.

We live in the dispensation of grace, the mystery program revealed to Paul.

6. Rightly Dividing the Word of God – Guarding Against Confusion

False teachers in Paul’s day already tried to move believers into the wrong time period. They also sent false letters (corrupted texts) to deceive believers

2 Timothy 2:15–18 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
If β€œthe resurrection is past already,” then the Body of Christ must be gone and we’d be back in Israel’s prophetic program.

Paul insists that has not happened, because the signs Daniel and the prophets give for the 70th week are not yet present.

7. What This Means for Us

1. Daniel 9 proves mathematically and prophetically that
β€œthis Jesus… is Christ.” (Acts 17:3) We can have confidence in Gods Promises
2. The 69 weeks ended at the Triumphal Entry – β€œthis thy day” (Luke 19:42).
3. Messiah was cut off, but not for himself (Dan. 9:26) – the Cross.
4. Jerusalem was destroyed exactly as both Daniel 9:26 and Luke 19:43–44 foretold.
5. The 70th week (Antichrist, tribulation, Day of the Lord) is still future; it belongs to Israel’s program, not ours.
6. Today, Christ is forming the Body of Christ under the revelation of the mystery (Rom. 16:25) by the gospel of Grace.
7. Our hope is the catching away (1 Thess. 4:16–17), not the wrath of the Day of the Lord.

Summary

Daniel 9 is God’s prophetic stopwatch.
It nails down the very day Messiah would present Himself, foresees His atoning death, and outlines the future 70th week.
When Paul β€œreasoned… out of the Scriptures” in Thessalonica, this is the kind of solid, mathematical, prophetic evidence he used to prove that Jesus is the Christ.
God told us what He would do and what would happen before it happened in order that we would believe Him and be saved by faith – Isaiah 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

You can know with the same certainty where you will spend eternity! Creation proves His existence, your conscience attests to a moral law giver, prophecy proves His truth and faithfulness. The absolute certainty of God’s promises to Israel – proven in the precise, mathematical fulfilment of Daniel 9 is the same certainty with which God guarantees eternal life to us through faith in the gospel. The God who fulfilled every detail of Israel’s prophetic timeline precisely is the same God who promises salvation by simply believing the finished work of Christ revealed in 1 Corinthians 15:1–4 – How that Christ died for your sins according to Scriptures, was buried and rose again the third day according to Scriptures

Receive the gift by faith – God cannot lie….

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
